Chloe's POV
"Alright Chloe, you ready?" asked Jeff my trainer.
"What's the point?" I mumbled.
"Chloe." Jeff started.
"No! What's the point Jeff? I have been here all this time and nothing has worked. This is useless."
"It is NOT useless!" He interrupted.
"Yes it is! I am not getting any better. Why haven't you just given up on me? Everyone else has." I mumbled the last part hoping he didn't hear it.
"Chloe Evans!" Nope, he heard me. He put his hands on the treadmill I was currently standing on. "I will never give up on you! I don't care what people have done, I will not do it. You can get better. You WILL get better. I know you will." He continued to lecture me but I knew everything he was saying was total BS. I wanted to roll my eyes but I knew if I did I would just get a longer lecture. I crossed my arms over my chest, looking everywhere but at Jeff.
I noticed a boy a few feet away smiling at me. I raised an eyebrow, challenging him. His smile only got bigger.
Okay. That's enough of the staring contest for today!
I rolled my eyes before turning my attention back to Jeff. "What I'm saying is that you work hard and that's all any of us ask." Holy crap! How is he still talking???
"Look Chloe, I know you aren't listening to me," opps. "But I want you to know, I do believe in you and I'll never stop believing in you."
A part of me believed him but then again, I've heard those words before and the person who said them.... Well let's just say they wouldn't say them anymore.
Without another word, I pressed the start button and started walking. "That's my girl." Jeff smiled. I gave him a mock salute.
I went through my usual routine of walking on the treadmill, doing very little weights and my other excersizes to "help" strengthen my muscles. Through my whole session, I could feel the boys' eyes on me. He was at the front desk with a woman I assume to be his mother. They've been talking to Cindy, the lady who owns Smiles and Strength, the whole time. Which means one thing and one thing only, he must be new.
I was on my last exercise, biking 3 miles downhill, when suddenly the empty bike next to me had an occupant. I tried to ignore my new unwanted company.
I had just gotten to two miles when, "Hey." I looked over to see the brown haired boy smiling at me.
"Hi." Ugh.
"What's your name?" He asked.
"Why do you care?" I asked turning towards him. He did the last thing I thought he would've done.
He smiled.
Being the short tempered person I am, his smile pissed me off.
I snorted, quiet unattractively I might add. "You're obviously new!"
"What's that supposed to mean?" He chuckled. Seriously? Does this boy not get offended or something??
"Well....." I dragged out. "Let's just say I'm not the funnest person to be around and the people here know that." I shrugged my shoulders, wincing.
He saw the wince. Dang it. He had pity clearly etched on his face but he soon covered it with his shinning smile.
"Tyler."
"What?" I turned a little too quickly.
"Tyler Robinson. That's my name."
"Ohhhhkaaaayyy........" I dragged. "Don't know why you told me your name." I mumbled.
"Because, that's what people do when they meet someone new," again with my unattractive snort. "And usually, the other person tells their name in response." I looked him up and down.
"So what brings you to Smiles and Strength Rehab?" I asked ignoring his hint at a question.
"Same as you," he shrugged, clearly not comfortable.
I snorted. "I doubt that." I looked at him in challenge.
"Drinking."
"HA!!!!!" Wait, did I say that out loud??
He smiled but I could see the hurt in his eyes. "I'm sorry," I mumbled.
"Ehh," he shrugged. "You obviously are here for a different reason." I nodded but didn't say anything.
"So Miss Unknown, why are you here?" I looked at him. I didn't know this boy but something told me I could trust him. Maybe it was his eyes. His eyes were a smooth brown. Like momma always said, "peoples' eyes match their personality".
"Well....." I cleared my throat. Bad idea. It caused me to go into a coughing fit. I stopped riding and rested my head on the screen, letting myself cough.
"Here," Tyler said putting his hand on my back holding out my water bottle.
I sat up. "Little sips. Little sips." He said helping me drink. Yep, his eyes definitely show his personality.
I did as I was told until the coughing died all the way down. When he pulled my water away I could see a little bit of blood on the straw. I mentally groaned. I looked up and saw Tyler looking at the straw and then back at me. He had concern etched all over his face.
How? How could he care? He doesn't even know me!
"A car accident," I gasped out. My voice sounded like I had just drank sand.
"What?" He asked.
"Chloe!! Are you alright?" I looked up to see Jeff running towards me.
I nodded. "Yeah." Ugh stupid voice.
"Come on," he helped me off the bike. "Let's get you back to your room." He reached down and grabbed my crutches. I took them from him and looked at Tyler one last time.
"Thanks," I barely got out.
"Any time, Chloe." He smiled and for the first time in 912 days, I smiled back.
