Zane's POV

After a long two day ride back to Holyhead, I had a lot of explaining to do; in the hurry to go out a find Lea, I had only told my mum I would be gone for a couple a days and by that point I had been gone five.  I cleaned myself up at the Fray house before Peter drove me home; the comfy seat of a car was something I had really missed after days of riding on the back of a wolf.  When I walked in, all hell broke loose; for a moment I thought it was just as scary as what I had faced a couple of days earlier.

“Zane Thomas Cooper, where the hell have you been!” Mum yelled as she heard the door shut behind me; she ran out of the living room into the hallway, her face looked like thunder.  “I have been worried out of my mind; I get a mysterious phone call from you saying you’ll be gone a couple of days and then nothing until you waltz through the door five days later!  Anything could have happened to you and I wouldn’t have known about it, you could have at least phoned me.  I was so close to phoning the police and reporting you missing.”

“I know and I’m sorry, I should have phoned but I didn’t and I’m sorry about that.  But this trip was something I needed to do and I couldn’t come home until it was finished.”

We stood in silence for a long time; at least it felt like that, the entire time my mum looked like she was about to explode with rage and I was waiting for it to erupt, leaving me on edge.  But when she finally did speak, she wasn’t angry any more.  Her face had softened and her voice wasn’t harsh, it was more understanding, probably a stunned reaction to me agreeing with her.

“Sweetie, I know you didn’t mean too, but I was so worried about you, I didn’t know when you were coming home or if you were ok.  I don’t know what I would have done if I had lost you; I’ve never been more scared.  Next time will you please just ring me?”

“There won’t be a next time; but on the off chance there is, I promise I will call you.”  She gave me a hug, then I picked up my stuff and started to walk upstairs while my mum called after me.

“And don’t think because I’m not yelling anymore you’re going to get away with that, your grounded for a month and that’s just for starters.”

Honestly though, I think I deserved that punishment that’s why I didn’t kick up a fuss about it.  Even if it meant that for a month I couldn’t see Lea outside of college.  I knew that the time that I had spent apart from Lea had been the most painful time of my life and I could only imagine how horrible it must have been for my mum, who had even less information than I had.

Once my grounding was lifted and I was free to see Lea again and we spent a lot of the time at her house after school.  Finally, Peter sat Lea down and explained the prophecy to Lea and how she had been destined to stop Maximus.  But not only that, in the same conversation I finally got to ask about my role and get the answers I had been looking for.

“Peter, I need to know why I am bound to Lea.  I’ve been doing my reading and humans don’t make the connection with super naturals, it’s just unheard of.”  I stated to my own disbelief but it had been worrying me for weeks.

“I should have told you this a while ago.  Zane you are not an ordinary human, that spark which I told you about, that links you with Lea; it is more powerful than anything an average human can possess.  You are what is classed as a Hero, a human born with divine powers.”
