Zane’s POV

“Why didn’t you tell me?” My voice filled with a mixture of anger and concern.

“Because I didn’t want to worry you,  I may not have much time left and I didn't want to spend it with you being terrified.”

“But surely as your boyfriend that would be something that I need to know about so that I don’t just wake up one morning and you have disappeared”

“I would never just disappear, I'd find a way to tell you.”

"Like you've told me about this."  I countered.

I can see that I am upsetting her and I know that if I’m not careful I’m going to push her over the edge.  As much as I hated the idea of doing that to her, I hated the idea of losing her even more.  That fear controlled my actions and pushed me to continue.  However, sensing that I was adamant in my argument, Peter stands up and points towards the pair of us.

“Ok, that’s enough. Mia take Lea into the front room and calm her down.  Zane you come with me.”  With that he walked out of the kitchen door and down the hall.  I quickly follow him though I am still trying to keep a cap on my anger.

We walked out the front door and go and stand in the garden, the air is cold and it’s soon putting a stop to my temper.  Peter stands looking up at the night’s sky as if I’m not even a blip on his radar.

“If you were just any boy I’d have made damn sure that you never saw her ever again.  But as it happens you’re not just any boy.” He turned his head to look at me, “I’m sure Lea has explained that in supernatural terms you and her are like soul mates."  I nod my head in agreement before he continues.  "I expect that she has also told you that normally a member of our community."

This time I shake my head.  I had no idea that my being human would be unusual but the more I considered it, the more it made sense.

“But I’m not supernatural” I respond with a heavy heart.

“No you’re not."  He replied bluntly.  "The story I am about to tell you is something that I was told as a child by my Grandfather.  It's starts off with a girl, a witch and although she is young nothing about this girl would suggest that she was anything less than exceptional.  As the years go by she grows and becomes feared by the powers that be.  Her parents know that their leader will do whatever he can to make sure that this girl does not come of age as she will be too powerful for him to fight, so they take her away and hide her from him.  Finally when the young girl completes the change she is able to rise up and protect all those which suffered at the hands of the evil leader, restoring peace to her world."

"That's a nice story."  I agreed.

"There is one thing that my Grandfather didn't mention to me until I became of age.  My duty as Alpha of the Fray pack would be to protect this girl should she reveal herself in my lifetime.  He told me that this was not just a story, this was a prophecy.  He said that with the help of a human, this girl would become the greatest witch ever to walk the earth."

"Why are you telling me this?"  I enquired curiously.

"Because my daughter is the prophecy.  Twenty-five years ago my father believed that Mia was the one the prophecy spoke of.  She was far stronger than any witch before and when the council came in search of her it seemed like it was all coming true.  I was sent to protect her but as soon as I arrived I knew it wasn't her.  It was instinct more than anything.  That same instinct reacted as soon as looked into Lea's little purple eyes the day her and her brother's were born."

"What does this have to do with me?"

"I think you are the human the prophecy speaks of, the one who gives the witch the power to fight.  No one can give her the power to fight like you can, you are her mate and she will protect you to the end."  He declared with emphasis.
