Title of book:
Flecks of Gold

What inspired your book:
I've always been interested in post-apocalyptic books and movies, so I decided to write a story about the idea a few years ago. I never got around to completing it but I was rereading it one day and was inspired to reattempt the story. I put together a completely different plot and a whole new cast of characters to bring a new life to that story. My main reason for writing Flecks of Gold apart from that was to create a book that avoided the clichés often seen in anything apocalypse themed. Also, I have never written a complete book before and I'm hoping to make Flecks of Gold my first finished story.

Who inspires you most when it comes to writing:
The author of the Legend series, Marie Lu, has been a huge inspiration to me. Her style of writing drew me into the world she portrayed in her books and I was fascinated by her characters. The plot twists and dramatic incidents that took place over the course of the series really taught me how to pace a plot and explain things such as sadness, pain, and romantic feelings much better in my own writing. Another inspirational author for me is James Patterson. Many of his books had futuristic and unique plots and characters that I enjoyed. His work gave me a better understanding of the first-person perspective, which has now become my favourite way to narrate a story.

What do you like to read/write the most:
Thriller, action, and adventure are a few of my favourite genres to read. I absolutely love stories with dramatic and intriguing plots. Added to this, I tend to read a good amount of science-fiction because I'm most drawn to futuristic settings. As for writing, I prefer fantasy and of course, adventure. Most of the things I have written for fun over the years have been fantasy, so it is a genre that I am comfortable with. I find that adventure stories are also enjoyable to write because you can shape the plot however you like and add elements such as drama, tragedy, romance, and danger at any point to keep readers on edge.

How do you feel about winning:
I'm so grateful and honoured. I wasn't really sure if my book would place but I decided to enter and try my luck. Surprisingly, I ended up getting third place which is pretty exciting and overall, it has given me encouragement to continue improving my writing.

Will you be entering The Fallen Angel Awards 2019:
I have an idea for a book that I'm planning to start after Flecks of Gold is completed and I would definitely consider entering it if I have a few chapters done in time for the 2019 awards. If not, I'll just wait for the next year and enter it then.
