On Saturday morning Taylor woke up with her phone next to her head. Confused she picked it up and realized that she must've fallen asleep while talking to Karlie last night. She looked at the time on her phone and saw that it was already 10am. Reluctantly she left her warm, comfortable bed and made her way downstairs for breakfast.
She hadn't spoken to her mother since the last afternoon and she didn't know what to expect downstairs.

Had she thought more about the argument? Had she at least considered Taylor's point of view?

When she entered the kitchen to get some food the only person inside was Andrea Swift, who was reading the newspaper.

"Morning," Taylor greeted, hoping her mother had moved on from their argument.

No response. Mrs. Swift didn't even look up from the paper upon Taylor's arrival in the kitchen. Taylor's heart dropped. It had been foolish to think even for a second that things had miraculously changed overnight.

"Where are dad and Austin?" She wondered aloud, trying not to let the disappointment show.

"At a soccer game," her mother curtly replied. Taylor knew that tone all too well. It was useless to try and start a conversation with her mother now.

Defeated she took a bagel, put cream cheese on it and ate at the table in silence. Mrs. Swift didn't look at her once.

Taylor quickly went back upstairs into her room. She hated living like this.

She tried studying for her upcoming economics test but it was no use. She couldn't focus. The still ongoing fight with her mother was draining her energy. Taylor desperately needed someone to talk to so she unlocked her phone and decided to call her best friend Ed. She felt like she had been neglecting him a little ever since she and Karlie had started dating.

"Taylor? What a nice surprise on this sunny Saturday," Ed answered the phone.

"Oh Ed," Taylor said as she started to cry.

"Tay, what's going on?" Ed asked, all goofiness gone from his voice.

"I-It's e-everything," Taylor choked out. She didn't even know where to begin.

"You know what? I'll come over right now. I'll be there in ten okay?" Ed said already making his way out of his house a few streets away.

"T-Thanks."

Taylor hung up but as promised ten minutes later there was a knock on her bedroom door.

"Hey Tay," Ed said as he entered the room.

"It's all so horrible," Taylor cried and all Ed could do was to hold her while she soaked his shirt with tears.

"It'll be okay, one way or another," Ed assured Taylor once her sobs started to quiet down.

"How?" Taylor hopelessly asked. For her this situation was impossible to escape from.

"Well, you'll be in New York City after the summer anyway. You won't have to deal with your mom then unless you want to," he replied trying to make his best friend see that this situation Taylor was stuck in wouldn't last forever.

"You know I didn't get into Julliard," Taylor said even sadder. College was supposed to be her escape but that dream had come crashing down.

"We'll find you something else to do there, T. You don't need that school. I'm sure Karlie and I can come up with plenty of things for you to do." At the mention of a certain green-eyed girl's name, Taylor's face got a little brighter.

"Didn't you say that she applied at NYU? You can go to the big city together and figure the rest out later," Ed added. He was already dreading the day when their ways would part and they'd move to two different cities but he knew deep down that New York was the perfect place for Taylor. It was exactly the place where Taylor needed to be. Ed was sure that whatever Taylor decided to do in New York, it would be a huge success.
