Christian's POV
--
"Train her properly," I grumble, angrily throwing more firewood into the flames in front of me, "bring her to the Queen." I growl, tossing the last few pieces in, "Who the fuck does he think he is saying 'train her'? She's not a dog." I mutter to myself as I remember Rafael.
I step back after throwing the last of the wood, and watch the flames dance as I inhale the scent of burning ashes.
Reaching to the ground beside me, I grab Adeline's shirt, and once I see the flames calm down a tad bit, I softly throw the cloth into the fire.
I mumble the enchantment that needs to be said and follow on with the instructions, "I promised Rafael I wouldn't kiss Adeline," I inhale a sharp breath, "that is the promise I wish to break."
After I'm sure the shirt is burned and the promise is lifted, I put out the fire and slowly begin walking back towards camp.
My mind begins to wander off and I let it. I mean, I just got told- shown, that Adeline is going to be punished because she's hard headed and has a problem with authority.
I need a little time to calm down.
"Hey!" An all too familiar voice pops up behind me, slightly startling me.
"Serena!" I stumble, knocking out of my thoughts, "What have I told you about sneaking up on people?" I heavily breathe.
"Not to do it." She innocently smiles at me.
I roll my eyes at her, "What are you doing out here? You should be back at camp." I eye her.
"Eh," She shrugs, "I needed fresh air." She walks ahead of me.
"The camp is outside." I catch up with her.
"But I needed fresh air where there weren't other people." She pauses, "You look white as a sheet. Either I scare good, or something's on your mind." She nudges me with her shoulder.
"Just a peek into the future." I mumble.
Her eyes light up, "Was it any good?" I just give her a look and she understands.
"Well... at least the promise you made with Rafael is finally broken." She says, attempting to get me to feel better.
"Yeah," I smile, "at least."
We enter camp and I see members walking around. A few sit around the well lit campfire discussing random topics among themselves. I search the many faces and stop when I see the face I'm looking for.
"She hates you." Serena mumbles as she catches me staring at her friend.
"She does?" I ask lifting an eyebrow.
"Well, you ignored her for two weeks. What'd you expect? For her to fall in love with you?" She speaks coldly. I let Serena's word through one ear and out the other. Instead, I watch as Adeline helps one of the younger camp members into their night clothes. "You are such a creep." Serena grumbles, as I unconsciously smile.
"Do you think she'll be okay with me if I apologize?" I ask, not taking my eyes off the redheaded girl.
"What are you going to say?" She pauses,"Oh, yeah. Sorry, I made a pixie promise so I just had to ignore you." My sister replies, mocking a deep voice.
I roll my eyes at her, "No. I mean, like a genuine apology."
"There's nothing genuine about you." She snickers, causing me to pass her a glare. I'm about to walk towards Adeline when a small hand pulls me back. "I really don't suggest you just talk to her." Serena warns.
"And, why not?"
"Because she's pissed off." She replies looking at me as if I'm stupid, "Look,mAdeline's the one who pisses people off around here. She calls them names and gets into arguments. She's what I call the 'Pisser'." She pauses. "You don't ever piss the pisser."
"How do you even come up with this shit?" I stare at her.
"Oh, when you curse, it's totally okay. But when I do it-"
I cut my sisters whining short by walking away from her and towards her friend.
"Hey," I quietly greet her, causing the tiny tribe member before her to pass me a glance.
"Hi," She flatly replies, keeping her full attention back towards the child.
"I just- I wanted to apologize for earlier. You know, about being a jerk." I lamely say.
She turns to me, and stands with her back straight- probably trying to look taller than she is.
"And I just want you to know that I don't accept your apology." She mocks me, plastering a fake smile onto her face. She crouches back down to child height and ignores me.
"Are you mad at Christian?" The small kid, Toby, whispers to Adeline.
"Yeah," She nods, quickly glancing at me, "he was mean to me earlier." She tells him innocently.
The child's mouth stays agape as he turns and glares at me.
"Adeline, I-" I start, just to get cut off by her.
"Stop," She shakes her head standing up again, "Christian, I've got a lot of words to call you, but I'm not going to say any because there's a child presence." She growls, her eyes narrowing at me.
I look down at Toby, then back up to Adeline, "Listen, I didn't mean what I said earlier. I was just... mad." I lie.
"I don't care if you were on your period, you were an asshole." She raises her eyebrows.
"What happened to 'no cussing in front of the child'?" I smirk.
"It went out of the window around the same time your lying skills did." She cheekily replies.
Toby tugs at the end of Adeline's shirt, "Should I leave you two alone?" He whispers.
"Yes," I answer for her, "yes, you should. It's late, and you should be in bed." I change my voice, trying to sound more professional.
Adeline let's out a frustrated sigh as Toby runs off to his tent.
I'm about to say something when Adeline turns around, and begins to walk away.
"I wasn't done talking to you!" I complain, chasing after her.
"I really don't care." She mumbles, continuing to walk.
"Hey, slow down." I breathe, reaching for her arm. She jerks her arm away, and turns around, giving me a glare.
"I suggest you leave me alone," She says, trying stay calm, "because if you don't, I'm going to end up hitting you so hard, even your ancestors are going to get dizzy."
She looks me up and down one last time before turning around, and waking away from me.
