Within a day of their return from Italy, everything started returning back to normal. The hospital eagerly welcomed Carlisle with open arms. Edward and Alice were reenrolled at Forks High school with Bella.
Jasper, Emmett, Esme, and I flew to Ithaca to officially move out. Even though none of us had a particularly enjoyable time living in that house, we decided not to sell it, since the location and size of the property were unmatched.
The restoration society was sad to see Esme leave, but she was committed to coordinating the renovation of Bletchley property on the phone and through Skype. She planned to fly over a couple times throughout the year to oversee the interior work.
With everyone at school or work, Emmett, Jasper, and I were often left to our own devices. Usually, Emmett was working on restoring his Jeep, Jasper was researching whatever he was interested in, and I was programming. One of our favorite activities together was spending the day in Seattle. Sometimes we shopped, sometimes we just spent the day by the water or hiking in the area.
However today was not one of those days. This particular evening, through Bella, Charlie had invited me over to watch a game.
Personally I was surprised that he reached out to me. Even though we had been back for three weeks, I knew that Charlie was not on good terms with Edward.
According to my text conversations with Bella, her dad imposed harsher restrictions, starting with her being grounded and only having visitors between 7-9:30 pm. And I didn't blame him. As far as he was concerned, Edward was the problem.
I parked Emmett's Jeep to the curb outside his house. I debated on driving my Lamborghini but I didn't want to add another reason for Charlie to hate the Cullens.
I knocked on the front door, and Charlie and Bella both answered.
"Eleanor!" Bella said, pulling me into a hug. It was the first time I'd 'seen her' since she came back from Italy.
"Please come in," Charlie said with a grin.
"Want anything to drink or eat? I've got some soda in the fridge."
"No I'm ok. I already ate."
"How was South America?" Bella asked as we all sat down on the couch.
"Incredible. Patagonia in particular was one of my favorites."
"Any upcoming plans? More travel? College?" Charlie questioned. I wasn't surprised that the future, more specifically college was on his mind.
"I haven't exactly figured it out since I only got back a month ago," I paused. I thought it was best that he thought I wasn't involved in everyone that happened over the past months.
"I think I'm going to postpone college another year to do some freelance programming," I lied. I wasn't particularly keen on going back to college and wanted to stick around Forks to be around Bella. The freelance programming part was so Charlie didn't think I 'wasn't doing anything'.
"Well good for you kid." He glanced at the wall clock.
"It's 5:30. Game's starting," he said, flicking the TV to the right channel.
"And that's my queue to leave. Nice to see you El," Bella smiled and headed upstairs.
It was the first game of the World Series, the championship series of Major League Baseball. Basically a huge deal for baseball fans.
Baseball held a special place in my heart. I never really played before I became a Cullen. Despite all of us having a variety of hobbies and interest, baseball was something we did as a family. And through my newfound of love of playing the sport, albeit not the way anyone else does, I grew an appreciation for watching it.
