Chapter 3: Friend

"Oliver Rin-Kurami. Please report to the front office." The sound of the speakers were flooding through the halls, leaving an annoying ringing sound in everyone's ears.

"Oliver Rin-Kurami." The speaker turned off. "You should go," Logan teased.

"Ok, ok, I get it." Oliver scowled.

"Oliver." The headmaster said over a speaker. Nobody had ever seen the headmasters face or heard his voice. So he was speaking into this tv thingy that hid his face and made his voice sound different. "This is the 9th time you have gotten into a fight this year. We have only been in school for 2 months."

"Hey! This time it wasn't a fight!" Oliver stated.

"What do you mean? Logan told me it was a fight."

"No! Kai punched Deren and now I'm getting blamed for this!"

"So it was a fight?"

"Yea, but I wasn't a part of it!"

"Well, that's a first...."

"Listen, Logan was only here for the period of time that I stood up for Deren."

"Oh. and how exactly did you stand up for him?"

"Well... I---"

"Exactly."

"I didn't even hurt him!"

"But you did threaten to murder him."

"BUT KAI PHYSICALLY HURT DEREN!" Oliver's eyes were turning red.

"Well-" Before the headmaster could finish his sentence, Deren came through the office door. The nurse had fixed him up, so he wasn't bleeding much anymore, and there were bandages all over his face. Oliver whipped his head around, a pissed expression still on his face. This scared Deren to death. "Wait, wait! I come in peace." Deren said. The red tint in Oliver's eyes faded back to their natural blue.

"Sorry." Oliver apologized.

"Yes, Deren?" The headmaster asked.

"Well, I don't think Oliver should have to take the blame for this," Deren said, crossing his arms.

"And why is that?"

For starters, Kai is the one who punched me, Oliver didn't hurt anyone."

"Yea, but he threatened to."

"Taking action is worse than threatening."

"Fair point."

"Also, Kai called us midgets-"

"WHOA, that's not ok! We respect all species!"

"Apparently not..." Oliver muttered under his breath.

"Also, Oliver was being a good friend and standing up for me."

Oliver was surprised. "F-friend?" He said with confusion in his voice.

"I-I mean if you want to be..."

"What's a friend again?" Oliver asked forgetfully.

"Well.... It's kind of like, a person who you can trust, and who you like to be around. They will always have your back."

Oliver thought for a moment. "Hmm.... I think it would be nice to have one of those."

Deren smiled because he just made his first friend of the year. Oliver smiled back because he had just made his very first real friend.

"Even if he did stand up for you, This is the 9th time he's threatened to murder someone this year." The headmaster explained.

"Even so, he never hurt anyone," Deren said.

"Actually, he has beat up a countless student's throughout the years."

"Well he never picks a fight, does he?" Deren argued.

"I still think he should get in trouble, nothing can change my mind." The headmaster decided.

Oliver stood up, pounding his fists against the table. His chair fell backward onto the floor with a crash. "THIS SCHOOL IS FUCKED UP!" He screamed, bursting out the door and sprinting away.

Deren looked back at the tv that the headmaster was speaking through. "Rule #2, No bullying unless you have a good reason." Deren started. "What good reason did anyone have for bullying Oliver and me throughout the years?" Deren finished, racing out the door after Oliver.
