Chapter 4: A broken window.

Deren was sprinting down the halls to try and find Oliver. Where could he be? He thought. Just then he saw Oliver's pin he always wears. He stopped running, bent down and picked it up.

That's interesting...Deren thought. ...A demon that carries a pin with a cross and angel wings on it...Just then, Deren heard glass shattering from the next room over, which was the men's bathroom. He pushed the door just in time to see Oliver jumping out the window. Deren tried to scream, but he couldn't make any noise. He ran over to the window, dodging the shattered glass on the floor. He looked out the window frantically. He didn't hear any bones cracking by the time Oliver should have fallen. Did he make it? Deren wondered nervously. "Hi," Oliver said. Deren looked down to see Oliver standing on the sidewalk below the window, arms crossed. "What are you looking for?"

"Oliver, why did you jump out the window?!" Deren said. "I was worried!"

Oliver was surprised by the fact anybody would ever be worried about him. "I was going to my house," Oliver explained. "So why didn't you just use the door?" Deren asked.

"Windows faster." Oliver giggled. Deren caught himself blushing. Wait.... Why is my face all red?!... He's so cute when he smiles...

"Hey, you wanna ditch school with me?" Oliver asked.

"What?"

"Do. you. want. to. ditch. school. with. me?" Oliver asked slower.

"W-well.... I can't, Kai will be mad if I don't buy him lunch.."

"Kid, you've gotta stand up for yourself sometimes," Oliver said, shaking his head.

"I-I can't, I'm too weak," Deren explained.

"Listen, I'm shorter than you, and I'm not even an elf! I'm a demon! If I can stand up for both of us, you can surely stand up for yourself."

"You have a point." Deren agreed. "I'll be right out," Deren said, running downstairs.

"Innocent child," Oliver said.
