Chapter 7: The Reveal
Oliver had rejected every question Deren had asked him saying, "I can't tell you yet.". So Deren had given up on asking for now.
"Oliver, Can I ask you for advice?" Deren asked.
"Of course! Anything for you.." Oliver said the last part quietly, but apparently, Deren heard it because he was blushing like crazy.
"What should I say to my mom? I mean, not just about the whole not coming home thing. My father died when I was 9. At his funeral, I never said a word. I didn't even cry. I had no idea what to feel. I wish with all of my heart that I could go back and time and say something. I wish I could just hug her and tell her that I love her. But I just stood there like the dork I am." Deren said. "And look, now I'm rambling. I barely just met you but I feel as if I've known you for years..."
Deren was going to say something else but before he had the chance, Oliver cut him off. He stuck his tongue in Deren's mouth in a long wet kiss, right in the middle of the hallway. People got out their phones. They stared and they whispered, but they didn't care. Deren closed his eyes and kissed back. Oliver could hear the crowd whispering.
"Oh. My. God."
"OLIVER'S GAY?!" " HOLY SHIT!"
"I heard rumors about Deren being gay but I never thought they were true!"
"Ew!"
"That's so gross!"
For every insult Oliver only stuck his tongue deeper into Deren's mouth- he choked him a few times.
Oliver opened his eyes a bit as they turned blood red and so did his wings. The whites of his eyes turned black. Oliver snapped his fingers and the people who were making fun of them fell to the floor lifeless (Which was about 80% of the people.), All without breaking the kiss. The people who weren't gossiping about them were cheering them on. These were the secret LGBT club members. Oliver had forgotten to attend the meeting but emailed the leader telling her his secret. Oliver's razor-sharp teeth accidentally cut Deren's tongue. He winced in pain. Oliver grazed his tongue over Deren's and it healed magically. The 7th-period bell rang, but they would not break the kiss. A few teachers gave them dirty looks, then walked away- probably to report them to the headmaster.
All of a sudden Oliver stopped kissing him back. Deren parted from him for a moment. "What's the matter, Oliver? Are you ok?"
Oliver shut his eyes and went limp. Deren tried to stand him up, but when he let go, Oliver fell backward onto the floor as his eyes rolled back into his head and he coughed out a mouthful of foam.
"SOMEONE! HELP! ANYONE!"
Oliver woke up. For a minute or two, he lay there in silence because his vision was still blurry. He tried to sit up but he couldn't. He looked across the room where Deren had fallen asleep in a hospital chair. Oliver closed his eyes again because he was too weak to sit up. Deren had heard him struggling and ran over to Oliver. When he opened his eyes he saw Deren and smiled. "Oh, there you are, friend..." He said with a weak, shaky voice. Oliver's vision cleared a bit more so that he could see the tears filling up Deren's eyes. He pulled him into a tight hug, crying on his shoulder. Oliver still couldn't really process what was happening because the room was spinning to him. He didn't know what else to do so he raised a shaky arm and hugged Deren back. "You scared me so bad," Deren said in between tears. "Don't you EVER do that to me again." Deren finished, kissing Oliver on the forehead.
An hour later.
Setting: Deren and Oliver are drinking coffee at a table in Oliver's hospital room.
