Chapter 13

I was well and truly showing by now (a human would say I was 4-5 months) and I flaunted it. We all had a nice Christmas lunch and pressent time was an interesting experience- one I doubted be repeated. I handed Dimitri my treasure box and he almost cried stopping at the card. "How? How did you know how to write that in Russian- Cyrillic no less?"

"Google translate comrade."

"Of course" he laughed "I should have known".

"What did she write?" Liss and Tasha asked, clearly not expecting me to elicit that sort of emotion from him.

"That's classified" he chastised gently.

"Ohh fine!" Tasha obviously didn't like 'her "Dimka"' keeping things from her.

"Are you ever gonna open it!" I laughed at Dimitri.

"I'm getting there! I'm getting there! Patience Rose." He started opening.

"Zen life lesson crap even on Christmas?!"

"Language Rose! Bubby doesn't need it" Dimitri chastised.

"Hey!" I smacked him playfully on his bicep. "Pressent- focus! I put alotta work into it!" He pulled out the discs and read the card, nearly crying again.

"Later" I whispered in his ear. He nodded- getting the message.

"I was looking for this! What's it doing with you?! You hate Westerns!" He laughed.

"Read the inside message and take a thorough look at it" I smiled mischievously.

"Thanks Rose" he smiled the smile that lit his face.

"Keep going!" I squealed.

"A new duster? Again, with all the teasing I thought you hated it!"

"Well... I actually like it- it completes you."

"You are full of surprises! A true enigma Rose" he smiled softly.

"There's a compliment in there somewhere" I mused.

"That there is" he replied.

"You're not done yet comrade!" I tapped the box.

"More?"

"Yes!"

"Rose" he breathed as he opened the stake kit "how?"

"Lissa helped- a lot."

"Thank you for helping Princess."

"You're welcome Guardian Belikov" Liss replied.

"Rose?" My mother started. "Why so much?"

"He's done everything for me. Changed me so much. One thing didn't seem to do justice to saying "thanks for putting up with me for 46hours a week- minimum"."

"You shouldn't have gotten him anything- at least until graduation."

"You're wrong mother dear. He's my guarding partner for Liss."

"You're not a guardian yet and may not get the princess."

"Guardian Hathaway- it's true. Croft and Guardian Council have already assigned Rose to Lissa."

"What? How come?"

"She's already proven herself worthy and one of the best."

I turned to face him "really? Seriously? Despite Bubby?"

"Yes. Bubby plays a role in this too."

"Oh."

"I'm proud of you Rose- you've already become everything I knew you could be and more. You've exceeded everyone's expectations."
