"You want me to what?" I questioned, unsure of whether I had heard Viktor right or not.

We were currently down in the basement. This was one of the many trainings I had done with both him and Zao so that I could learn how to defend myself. Up until now, Zao had mostly been teaching me on his own. We had gone through both hand to hand fighting along with how to use a blade to your advantage.

Zao's weapon of choice was what looked to be a large meat cleaver. I had to admit, holding it in my hands felt...strange, almost as if my mind was foggy. The blade felt heavy, but not because of its weight. There was no doubt in my mind that this had been used to take someone's life, and not because he had been using it for protection.

But I felt like I didn't have the right to tell him it was wrong to kill. He was a second player. This was how things were, and after all that time spent at Luciano's mansion, I had gotten used to it.

Zao had tried to get me to fight against him using his blade after teaching me different techniques, but it didn't work very well. I would get close to attacking him and then stop myself because I was afraid to accidentally hurt him.

After hearing my troubles with weapons, Viktor suggested we try something different. He said having to fight with a blade would be no good for me, that it put me too close to my enemy. A gun would be a much better choice. I would be able to not have to get close to the person if I used that.

The only problem was my aim, however. We had quickly found that out when Viktor was showing me a gun he thought would be easiest to use. I felt completely lost on how I was supposed to do that. He had been working on improving my ability to aim at things since then without using a gun for now. But now, here we were. I had been working on aiming using a bow and arrow when Viktor had handed me a small handgun.

"I want you to try shooting the targets with it," he repeated. "I believe you're ready to try."

"Are you really sure...?" I muttered but took the gun anyways. "I haven't been using it because it's safer to wait until I'm more experienced in shooting the arrows, right?"

"You've been doing well," he nodded. "Besides, trying once isn't going to hurt. If it doesn't go well, you'll go back to the arrows."

"Okay," I took a deep breath. "I guess you're right."

I took aim at the target as Viktor instructed. But my chest felt tight, which was extremely distracting. I was in my own head. The gun was giving me a similar feeling as Zao's weapon had. It was so heavy...you could take someone's life with this, easily, with little to no thought. Even with my bad aim, if I fired enough shots, one could hit. That one shot could be enough to kill, and that was a scary thought.

But this was also a different feeling from when I had tried to use the Zao's cleaver. This was colder...more detached....And that was how I imagined Viktor to be when firing it at someone. He would never go out of his way to pick fights, but if it had to be done....he would kill with a stone cold expression.

Then there was Zao...I hadn't realized it until now, but the feelings from his weapon...they were extremely personal. He liked it...he enjoyed carving people up with it, didn't he? It was all fun and games...I didn't like either feeling. But what was I supposed to do? I couldn't just run around and expect someone to always be there to protect me. I had to do this....I had to get out of my own head and shoot!

I pulled the trigger. Considering I hadn't expected it, the force of the shot made me lose my balance, knocking me to the floor. I hadn't noticed how hard I had been breathing until that point.
