I jumped out of my car instantly and ran to see what I had run over...
It was a little girl, no older than 6 years old! She lay unconcious and I quickly called for an ambulance. While I waited, I cried and cried, not believing what I had done. I may have killes this poor innocent girl and the reason for this was because I wasn't concentrating on the road. What would her parents say? What would my parents say? I hurt this poor child. She may not ever be able to live her life and it is all MY FAULT! I thought about doing CPR, but I was scared that I might not do it right and it didn't want to risk hurting the poor girl anymore. I looked closely at the child. She had flowing red hair and her face was covered with freckles. She has a snub nose and I couldn't see her eyes because they were closed, but I could guess that they were beautiful. This child was the definition of cute and she looks like she could be very pretty when she is older. I may have killed her! I may have killed her! I could never forgive myself. Please say I haven't killed her!
After what seemed like hours, the ambulance finally arrived and they put the limp girl onto a stretcher and carried her in. I couldn't just leave her on her own, so I insisted that I go with them. Anyway, they would need to question me at some point, because I was the only witness. The ride in the ambulance took about 10 minutes and there was a man doing CPR on the girl. He did it a lot, but it wasn't working. Maybe when they got to the hospital, they could do something else.
Once we arrived at the hospital, doctors took her into a private room and began trying to save her. They were at this for more than an hour but I knew as soon as one of the doctors came up to me that it was bad news.
I WAS A MURDERER!
I couldn't believe it. I didn't know what to do so I cried cried until I heard loud sobbing and shouting coming from the room. A couple came out and they were both crying their eyes out. I wondered if they were her parents. My theories were proven to be correct when the doctor that was with them started to talk to me. She asked me a lot of questions about what had happened and I answered them all as truthfully as I could. All the way through this interrogation, the couple were glaring at me, knowing that I was the cause od their daughter's death. Afterwards, they left me and I heard them giving the details of their daughter to the doctor. Her name was Millicent Black, or Milly for short and she was five years old. I had killed a five year old!
I began to cry again. I don't usually cry like this. It's so weird. After a while, I see my parents come in and they look at me with so much concern that it worries me. My dad is supposed to leave for Canada today. I hope I don't make him late for his flight.
"Honey, we heard what happened and we talked it through with Milly's parents. They are an important family in business, but your father and his lawyer have managed to fix this for you. They aren't reporting you to the police. Isn't that great, dear?" my mum said.
My dad added on in a hushed tone, "Yes, but all is not well. Your mother has already said that their family is important, which means that they know a lot of people. These people can find you, honey. They can hurt you without anyone finding out. This means that you cannot stay here in California. We have to send you to live with some of our close family friends in Denver. I'm sorry, dear but this is the only way that you will be safe. They will take care of you and you will have to finish your education there. We have booked a flight for you tomorrow. I'm sorry, honey. The worst thing is that you will have to change your identity. There will be people on the plane that will fix you up so you look different to how you look now. You will even get a new name. This is the last time that I will see you beforw you leave, since I do have to go. I will talk to you soon. Good luck, Natalie. I love you."
What?! I have to leave California? My friends? My boyfriend? My life? I don't even get to say goodbye properly, as I will have to say everything over the phone. Oh My god!
The drive home was silent. My mum didn't say anything, so I didn't either. I was trying hard to blame my parents for all of this, but I knew that this was all my fault. When we arrived at home, I ran to my room and called Lily.
"Hey, Nat. What's up?"
"Lily, you are not going to believe this but..."
I told her everything and I mean EVERYTHING. I couldn't be bothered to explain this to all my friends, so I told Lily to just tell them that I had to leave because of my dad's business. They are very big gossips so I didn't want the whole school to know my business. Lily understood and promised that she would.
"I'll miss you, Nat," Lily sobbed.
"I'll miss you too. You are the best friend ever and I hope we can meet again sometime," I said and with that I cut the call. I needed some time to regain myself but then I called Chad.
I told him everything too, since he iz my boyfriend. However, his reaction was very different to Lily's...
"Erm babe, since you'll be going, it's OK if we see other people, right? I think Lauren Davies was totally checking me out." he blabbered.
WTF!
"Sure. See what I care. Here I was thinking that you loved me. I guess I was wrong. Bye Chad," I grumbled back before I cut the call. Unbelievable!
After that, I knew I had to pack. This would take forever! I knew that I couldn't take everything, so I packed most of my clothes and essentials. I obviously didn't need to take any furniture and my mum told me when I started packing that I wasn't allowed to take anything personal that would make it easy for people to know the real me. That meant that I couldn't take any photos and my dad had already bought me a new phone. I wasn't to put any of my old contacts into that phone, except for my parents numbers. I was ready!
