Lesley and Lissa! :D (in that order)

Today was the day. After being in Denver for a week now, it was finally time for me to start school. I knew that I had some friends at the school, as Lissa, Jake and Jessie were at my school, but I was nervous nonetheless.

First impressions count, so I did my best to look good today. I wore a knee-length floral skirt, a cream cami and a cropped denim jacket. To accessorise, I wore some blue pumps, a silver charm bracelet and a cream bow in my hair. I looked in the mirror and felt ready.

Lissa had been helping me get all of the essentials for school ready, so I was sure that I had the correct textbooks and equipment. Since I was done, I went downstairs and had a big bowl of cereal. I didn't want to get hungry until our lunch period. After everyone had eaten, we went outside and got into Jake's car. Lissa had told me that they switch between Jake's and her own every day. I felt bad that I couldn't have a go, but of course, I had to leave my car in California.

Once we had arrived at school, Jessie and Lissa left, because they had a different class to me and Jake. Since he had the same class for period 1, he offered to show me my locker. I was so grateful to know three people in my year already, though Lissa did tell me that Dan didn't talk to anyone at school. Hm... maybe I could change that. That would be my goal!

After I got the right books and put all of the unnecessary ones in my locker, I meekly followed Jake to our first class, maths. Yes! A class I won't fail at!

A few minutes after we take our seats, a young teacher called Mr Hunter comes in.

"Settle down class. I hope you are ready for a mini test," he says brightly, chuckling as he hears the groans of the class, "Lesley, hand these out please."

A pretty brunette girl who was sitting next to me gets up and starts handing out the tests. When she returns to her seat, she greets me, "Hey. I'm Lesley. I see you are new. What class do you have next?"

"Hi. I'm Kristy and I have biology with Miss Taylor. You?"

"Yeah same. Want to sit together?" she asks.

"Sure," I smile at her, glad that I had already found a friend.

Mr Hunter told us to be quiet and started a timer, telling us that we had five minutes to finish this test. I had it done in three minutes, so I had time to check over all of my answers. I don't mean to brag, but I'm pretty sure I aced this test.

The timer goes off, indicating that the time is up. He tells us to pass our papers to the person on our left. The person on my left was Jake, so I handed him my paper. After he reads out the answers, he tells us to shout the percentage that the person we have been marking has got when he reads out their name.

When he says, Lesley's name, I say,"94%" and that leads to some whooping from the back row. I see Lesley blushing and sense that she has a crush.

When he reaches my name, Jake reads out, "100%" and I smile. Everyone claps and Mr Hunter gives me a thumbs up. I guess I had nothing to worry about this school.

After a couple more lessons, it was time for lunch and with Lesley by my side, we made our way to a table with our lunch trays. I was surprised to see that on our table were Lissa and another girl who I must say was beautiful. She had dark skin (she told me that she was originally from India) and straight black hair that reached her waist. Her eyes were massive and sparkling. Her name was Priyanka, but she told me to call her Priya.

"I didn't know you were friends with Lissa," I said with surprise to Lesley.

"Yeah, we've been friends since we started high school and we met Priya last year," she said to me.

Just as we started to tuck into our lunches, I noticed a boy step into the cafeteria. He tore jeans, a grey shirt and a black leather jacket. He looked hot and I mean seriously hot! I gasped when I realised that it was Dan. He looked so lonely by himself on that table.

"What's wrong?" asked Priya when she heard my gasp.

"Oh, I just saw Dan, you know our neighbour. He looks really lonely," I say.

"I told you. He likes to keep to himself at school. He doesn't talk to anyone," Lissa tells me.

I turn to look at him and see him staring at me. I immediately turn back around so he can't see my face turning into a tomato.

"Aww does someone have a little crush?" Lesley teases when she sees me blushing.

"What?! No!"

"You sure? Your face seems to be saying otherwise," Lissa joins in.

"Oh shut up!" I shout and glare at them both. Then they all start giggling, including Priya.

"Hey! I thought you were on my side," I say outraged to Priya.

"Sorry, I have to go with what I see," she smirks at me.

Arrg! How did I manage to embarass myself already?! I'm Natalie Johnson. I don't do crushes!

"Then who were you blushing at back in maths? I saw you when someone whooped from the back row when I read out your percentage," I asked Lesley teasingly.

"Oh erm it's no-one. Just drop it, Kri-"

"Ooh tell us, Lesley. We're intrigued," Priya says.

"Come on. Spill the beans," Lissa joins in.

After muttering profanities, Lesley finally says, "Fine, it's Kyle Brooks!"

"I knew it!" Lissa and Priya say at the same time.

"Jinx," Priya says and Lissa glares at her, so I don't think she's actually going to be quiet.

"Who's that?" I ask.

Lesley nervously points to the table full of football players, which Jake happened to be sitting at.

"He's the one with the black hair, sitting in the middle," she said meekly.

"Aw he's cute. Does he know you like him?" I ask.

"I don't think so. I thought that I'd maybe ask him before our Spring Fling Dance next week.

"Sounds like a good plan," Priya says.

After school, Lissa and I walk over to Jake's car. I see a motorcycle nearby and I have to stop and look at it for a bit, because it's such a beauty.

"Nice ride," I whisper to myself, but Lissa hears anyway. I swear that girl has ears like a bat!

"Oh, no wonder you'd notice Dan's ride out of all of the vehicles in this parking lot," she laughs.

It's Dan's?! How come I've never seen it before? It must be kept in the Waters's garage. I see Dan go towards it and hop on. Some girls nearby are staring at him, giggling to eachother. He may like being alone at school, but this sure helps him get the attention of girls. Who doesn't like a mystery guy after all? He looks at me for a second time today and I blush again. Arrg what is wrong with me?! Keep it together, Nat!
