Tumble

Six weeks of nonstop traveling.

Felix and Joey were halfway through their journey back to the convention building. The way back was easier than surviving on their own, seeing as it wasn't a lonely road, but it still held its challenges.

The two were experiencing one of these challenges at that moment.

A large canyon was separating the men from their destination. It was about 1,000 feet deep, and at least a mile or two wide, from what they could see. It was nearly strait down, with a few chunks of rock sticking out of the side. Felix, of course, had crossed it on the way to finding Joey, but that didn't mean he remembered how to conquer it once again. He had crossed so many chasms, in such a fearful state, it was hard to remember exactly what happened at any certain one.

"So, you really have no clue how to get across this thing?" Joey asked Felix after a few moments of debating solutions.

"Nope..." Felix mumbled.

He kicked at a stray rock at the edge of the cliff, and watched it fall and tumble until it reached the bottom.

"I guess we'll just have to climb our way down and up!" Joey suggested with a shrug.

The blonde sat down with his feet over the edge, then slowly lowered himself down until he landed with a thud on one of the rocks jutting out below him. It was thin, and he was just barely able to stand on it, but he managed.

Felix got down on his knees and peered at the other man while trying not to look into the canyon.

"Are you sure that's safe?" The Swede asked nervously.

"No...but there's not another way, right? Besides, people rock climb down the Grand Canyon all the time. Er, used to..." Joey replied, trying to sound as positive as possible. After saying this he continued his way down, carefully placing his feet wherever he could place them.

Felix let out a sigh, but followed Joey's example. He climbed down into the chasm and tried his best not to look down.

The two descended slowly, but were halfway down before they realized. It was a terrifying experience, but they were able not to slip up, and were able to recover whenever they did. Joey was still below Felix by a few feet.

"You okay down there?" Felix asked, speaking louder than usual to make sure Joey could hear him.

"Yeah, I'm fine!" Joey responded, his voice a bit muffled since he was looking downwards.

Felix nodded although the other man couldn't see him. He looked downwards, trying to reach his foot over to another chunk of stone so he could climb downwards more easily than from where he was.

Just a little farther...

A few more inches...

Crumbling rock made Felix panic.

This panic only made the situation worse.

Felix was already beginning to fall because of the ground beneath him crumbling under his weight, and the sudden flailing and jerking of his limbs merely sent him plummeting to the earth below.

"Fuck!" The blonde shouted as he felt himself falling.

It felt as if he was in slow motion, feeling himself soar downwards towards most likely immediate death. He watched the sky grow further away as his hands gripped around for nothingness.

Until he succeeded in grabbing something.

Felix shut his eyes tightly as his body came to an abrupt halt. Slowly, he opened them and looked upwards to find Joey with a pained expression etched on his face. Felix's hand was in his, the only thing keep him from becoming a victim of gravity, though he hadn't been spared yet.

"I can't hold on to you! You have to grab onto something else!" The American shouted, stress obvious in his voice.

Unfortunately, there was nothing to grab onto. Not a single stone or branch sticking out of the side of the cliff.

In a ray of hope, there was a fairly large, flat rock jutting out, though it was a few feet below...

And a few too many feet to the left.

Felix kicked his legs out in front of him, desperately trying to gain momentum.

"What are you doing?!" Joey wheezed out, tightening his grip on the Swede below him.

"Just swing me back and forth three times, then let go!" Felix replied, swinging back in the opposite direction.

"Are you insane?" Joey cried.

"Just trust me!" Felix begged while kicking his legs out once again.

Joey let out a breath of air and complied. Felix swung to the left.

One...

He swung to the right.

Two...

He swung to the left.

Three!

Joey released Felix's hand, sending him flying across the gap separateing him and his destination.

Thud.

Joey's throw worked.

A bit too well.

Felix indeed landed on the place he was trying so desperately to reach. Although as soon as he landed, the momentum was too much, and he kept rolling. And rolling...and rolling...and rolling.

He continued falling and hitting multiple boulders on the way down, a shout released each time he crashed down upon a new stone. He had his arms and legs tucked tightly to his body, trying to avoid any vital hits. Not too long after he finally hit the ground, releasing the loudest yelp of them all. He laid still, unable to move even if he tried.

"Oh, my God! Oh, my God! Felix, are you okay? I'm coming, I'm coming!" Joey shouted in a panic.

Felix barely paid any attention to the shouts, barely able to focus on anything. All he knew was the fact he was in pain, and something warm was pooling by his arms, legs, and head. He didn't know how long he was lying in the same spot. He was slipping in and out of consciousness quite a bit.

The last thing he saw was Joey's worrisome blue eyes hovering over him before he let go into unconsciousness.
