Loki stood where the Bifrost had dropped them off when they were going to battle the Frost Giants. He stood there for a good five minutes, unable to move, unable to go further into the truth. He wasn't ready, but he wanted to know. No more secrets.
He took a breath and began to walk toward the temple where his father was unknowingly waiting.
The realm looked more busted and broken than what they saw before. Rocks and ice were scattered, the ground was cracked, and the temple was open. For some reason, the realm felt darker. There was no one in sight just like it was before. Everything about the realm was unsettling to the young prince. The realm was more broken than before because of them. He felt some pity.
He entered the open temple and found the throne empty, as was the whole building. There was nobody. It was as if they have all vanished into thin air. He didn't want to look for Laufey. He feared that a guard or the king himself might find him and mistake him for an Asgardian that has come to make more war for the realm. Instead, he decided to stay in the throne room and maybe look around for any clues about who he was suppose to be.
Everything was dark everywhere Loki went. However, he spotted a little bit of light in another room not far from where he stood. The room wasn't bright, but it was enough to see an object that lead to a clue--or maybe the answer--of his past. Loki left the throne room and went into the room with the clue.
As he walked closer, he saw that it was a crib. It looked like it hasn't been touched for years, but otherwise neat. He touched the crib and ran his hand across the ice. It felt familiar. Everything about the room was deja vu. The memory was trying hard to come back to him, as if a wall was breaking the connection of the memory to Loki's mind.
There was a carving in the side of the crib written in Jotun language. Thankfully he read about and studied the history and ways of the Frost Giants. It was a name: Laufeyson. He wondered what actually happened in the battle.
"You were taken from me."
Loki quickly turned around and saw a giant figure at the door of the bedroom. It was Laufey. It was his father. Loki went behind the crib. "You abondoned me. At least that's what fath--Odin said. You left me to die."
"Lies. All of it. Unless that's what the Allfather believed when he saw you. Such a wise king," Laufey said sarcastically. "I did not abandon you. You were left there to be protected from the war. You are small for your size."
Loki swallowed hard and walked up to the king until he was face to face. "Tell me, then. Tell me everything."
"Why do you come now, after so many years?"
"I was lied to. I was to believe that I was an Asgardian, but I found out the hard way who I actually am, a Frost Giant. Now tell me everything."
"Very well. During the war between our two kingdoms, your mother, Farbauti, hid you in the temple to be protected while she was helping our people move away from the battle. She was a strong warrior with a loving and caring heart. She told me where you were before she left and said she would come for you when the battle wad done. She never came back. I found her with a deep wound in her chest. My wife, my love, your mother was gone.
"You had brothers, Helblindi and Byleistr, and they fought in the battle as well. When the Asgardians left and the fog was cleared, I saw my two sons dead. I never should have let them fight with me. She told me it would be dangerous."
Loki actually felt pity for the Jotun king. It must be hard to know that you have lost everything in one day. The pain that the king felt was contagious to the prince. He felt the pain too, the pain that he had lost everything without even knowing what he had lost. The pain that he once had a family with siblings and parents that were now gone was too heavy in his heart. Loki couldn't hold the tears.
"I remembered that you were in the temple. I ran over there to see if I can savor one piece of my family, but when I got there, you were gone. I was alone."
Loki was speechless. He didn't know what to say, but he got a whole different view of the Frost Giants. They weren't the monsters that he grew up thinking. Frigga was right. There was love in their hearts, but it was buried deep underneath pain, loss, and grief.
"You did not abandon me?" Loki asked.
"Of course not. You're my son. You know the truth, Loki. Will you stay?"
The prince desperately wanted to know more about the real Frost Giants and about his family. He wanted to know more about his father. He wanted to uncover the whole truth about Jotunheim, but at the same time, he didn't want to leave the ones that he came to love growing up. Asgard was his home. He was torn between the two.
"I don't know," he answered.
