Fear of the Truth

Odin couldn't stop thinking about what had happened between him and Loki in the weapons vault. His biggest fear has happened. Loki has found out the truth about himself, and he figured it out in a very hard way. Out of all the realms, why did Thor and his friends have to go to Jotunheim?

Now what was to become of Asgard now that the youngest prince knows who he is? Will he join the Frost Giants and make war with the Asgardians? Will he betray the ones that he has grown up with? Will he hate the ones he once loved? There were so many questions floating around the king's head.

At the nightfall of the eternal realm, the king of Asgard sat on his bed and looked over the war plans that he and the warriors have discussed. He really did not want to make war with the Frost Giants, especially now that Loki knows. He didn't know what effect it might bring.

Frigga came into the room, ready to sleep and awaken to a new day. She saw her husband and kissed him on the forehead and sat next to him. "Will the war plans be effective?"

Odin didn't answer, nor did he look at his wife. He continued staring at the war plans, but paid no attention to them.

"Odin?"

It took a moment for him to answer. "He knows."

"Who knows what?" She asked.

This time Odin turned his head and faced his queen. "Loki. He knows who he is, where he comes from. He's angry."

Panic and grief filled the queen's heart in an instant, but not because she feared he might attack them, but that he would hate them, hate her. Loki was her son. It's one of the most heartbreaking things when a child would hate their own mother. She didn't know if she was able to bear that pain. "What will you do?" she asked.

"I do not know. I do not know what will occur."

"Well, we can at least speak with him instead of waiting around for him to take action. Where is he?"

"I do not know," Odin said again.

"You don't know? Have you at least spoken with him about it?"

"Of course I have. He walked away before I could usher another word."

"Did you at least go after him?"

Odin was getting annoyed with Frigga, mostly because he knew she was right. She was always right about situations like these. He usually left the family business with her while he did the rest, which is why he's not very good at talking. "No, I have not. What do you want me to do, Frigga?"

"To talk for once. You are always one to keep secrets, which is tearing this family apart. I told you to tell him who he was from the beginning. He grew up viewing that Frost Giants were nothing but monsters. Why do you think he feels angry now? Tell him everything...and Thor. He deserves to know too."

"Why won't you talk with them? My hands are already full with the war plans."

Frigga smiled, sighed, and shook her head. "I can't keep doing this forever. Eventually you'll have to talk." She got up from the bed and walked to Thor's room.

Odin continued to stare absently at the plans.
---------------------------------------------------------
Frigga knocked on the door to Thor's room. She wondered about the conversation and how it would go. Thor was raised to hate the Frost Giants, so she worried that once she told him the truth, he would change his view on his brother, that he would see him as nothing more than a mindless monster.

Thor opened the door and saw his mother with the worried look on her face. "Hello, mother. Is everything alright?"

"I don't know if alright is the right word, but I must speak with you urgently."

"Of course. Come in." He opened the door wider so that his mother may enter.

"Thank you," she said. She sat on his bed and motioned for him to do the same. "This is about your brother, Loki."

"Yes, I have been meaning to ask. He has been acting rather strange. He won't tell me what's wrong. I want to help him but..."

"I know. Darling, I need you to listen to me closely. What I'm about to tell you will change this family forever. I need you to promise me that you will see your brother the same always. Love him as you love him now."

Thor grew very concerned, but still cooperated. "I promise."

"Good." She took a moment to gather her thoughts. "When you and your friends went to Jotunheim to confront the Frost Giants, a secret was revealed during the battle. Loki touched a Frost Giant and...his skin turned blue."

"What are you saying?"

"Your brother is...a Frost Giant."

The truth hit him as if a wrecking ball smacked him in the head. He was on the verge of tears. His brother--the one he has come to know and love and sworn to protect--is a Frost Giant. He couldn't be. He's smaller than they are. There's no way that he's one of those monsters. "What do you mean? He's smaller. He's an Asgardian."

"He is not."

"How can that be?"

"Do you remember the great war between Jotunheim and Asgard?" Thor nodded. "Well, after the battle, your father found a small infant Frost Giant in the temple. He was abandoned--according to what Odin told me--and crying all alone. Nobody was with the poor thing. Your father took him in, gave him a title, and he became our son. He was to become the key to peace between the two realms.

"I told your father to tell him who he was in the beginning, but he didn't want him to feel different from the rest, to protect him. You know how we view them, as vicious monsters. That's not what we wanted. Sadly, he had to find out the hard way."

"So he's not my brother?" Thor's heart was shattered to little pieces, almost impossible to put back together. He was lied to. A wave of emotions hit him all at once. He didn't know what to feel.

"Not by blood, but you will always be brothers. Remember your promise."

As much as he wanted to take away his love for Loki, he couldn't. The brotherly love he has for him was too strong to get rid of. No matter who Loki was, he will always be his mischievous little brother whom he loves very much, the brother he will always protect. Suddenly, his view of the Frost Giants was becoming different.

"Mother, how do you view the Frost Giants?"

Frigga smiled, knowing where this was leading. "I view them just as any other being broken and stone-hearted. They are beings that need love and understanding and someone to listen, just like everyone else. Why view the Frost Giants as monsters when you face the same problems yourself?

"I have seen a Frost Giant living in the palace of Asgard and I know you love him very much despite what I have just told you."

Thor laughed under his breath and looked down at his hands. Then back up at his mother. "I do. What do you think will happen now?"

"I don't know, but I fear the worst. Let's just hope your brother understands and still sees how much he is loved."

Thor nodded. He knew what he had to do next. "Yeah."
