Prologue-
"Lily! Lily!" Someone was singing. Horribly I might add. I opened one eye to see my mom dancing into my room. I just sighed and tried to go back to sleep. My mom wouldn't give up however. She crawled on top of me and started poking my cheeks and ruffling my auburn hair.
"Please go away," I groaned into my pillow. My mom just started tickling me and I had a spaz attack, hating when she touches my sides.
"Alright I'm up!" I shouted, rolling out of bed while my mom just laughed.
"What is going on in here?" My dad asked, walking into my room.
"Mom tried to kill me," I replied, crossing my arms over my chest.
"I only tickled you," she defended, hopping off my bed and skipping over to my dad, kissing him quickly. Then she turned to me and said, "Today's the day!" In that horrible sing song voice.
"No! Mom, please don't make me go," I pouted, my lower lip trembling.
"Sweetheart, we've been planning this trip for months. You're old enough to go visit your aunt and uncle and cousins by yourself. I mean, you're seventeen now Lily pop," my dad said, ruffling my bed head.
"A seventeen year old introvert. I don't want to go by myself. I don't want to go at all! I've been saying that since you started dropping hints about this whole trip!" I threw my hands up in the air and sat on my bed, crossing my legs and playing with the bottom of my pyjama pants.
"Lily pop..."
"No," I sighed, shaking my head at my mom. "Just... Just go. I have to get dressed." My parents sighed before leaving.
For some reason, they thought it was a good idea to send their one and only introverted child on a flight to another country, by herself. I'll never understand why. I sighed before getting up and getting ready for today.
My bags were already packed to spend a month over there, I just had to pack up my toiletries, chargers and laptop today and go.
I took a quick shower before pulling on a pair of skinny jeans, a grey tee shirt, a black cardigan and regular high top converse. My flight didn't leave until eleven tonight, so I decided to read for a while until I had to go. At around 9:30, I packed up all my electronics and toiletries I needed to bring with me before bringing my suitcase and book bag downstairs with me.
"I packed you snacks Lily pop," my mom said when I appeared downstairs with my bags, pulling a beanie on my head.
"Thanks mom," I said, taking the bag of food from her and storing it in my book bag. She also gave me a few bottles of water before my dad came down to put my suitcase in the car.
The drive to the airport was full of chatter I'm sure, but I was so plugged into my music that I didn't even hear it. I was so busy listening to "Hands On Me" by Ariana Grande. I'm not even sure why. I liked her but I would never sing a song like this or even talk about the things she says in the song. It was too dirty, but it was catchy.
Once we got to the airport, we had a quick goodbye passed between us, me being extremely uncomfortable being hugged for more than ten seconds. I also didn't know what to do when people cried in front of me, so I'd either hyperventilate or laugh awkwardly. So when my mom started to cry, I awkwardly laughed and patted her shoulder before practically sprinting into the airport.
I had no problems at all, checking my bags through security and whatnot. I didn't even have to talk to anyone, which was fantastic.
I had to get to Gate Seven which was on the fifth floor. I headed down to an elevator that no one but an unnaturally tall blonde boy with a leather jacket was standing at. I saw he'd pressed the up button, so I put in my headphones again and put "Hands On Me" back on before walking over to stand as far away from the blonde giraffe as possible, while still making it look like I was waiting for the elevator.
When it showed up, we stepped on in total silence. I went to press the button for the fifth floor but the giant next to me got there first. I decided to ignore him for the quick ten second ride when the elevator suddenly stopped between the second and third floors.
"Shit," the blonde skyscraper next to me said, immediately pushing the button for the fifth floor repeatedly. I just turned my music up and tried to ignore him. He picked up the emergency phone and told whoever was on the other end that the elevator he was in had stopped.
"I'm sorry sir but no one will be able to get to you for approximately thirty six hours. Please remain calm."
