Valentina was surprised by Eli’s choice of restaurant. They were sitting in crowded pub, but managed to find a quiet booth to enjoy their dinner in. Eli explained to her that he liked this place mostly for the atmosphere, but also because they only served three dishes, so it was easy for Eli to order. It didn’t hurt that those three dishes were delicious. Eli had downed half a pint of beer with his roast chicken already. For some reason, she’d believed he wouldn’t have such a voracious appetite. Although, they had just burned off a lot of calories in her bedroom. And then again in the shower.
“I’ve never met a telepath that strong, Eli. Not even my father, and he’s psionic.” Valentina still marveled over their impromptu trip to the beach. She’d opted for pot pie with her beer, but was far too interested in Eli to eat more than a few bites yet.
“I’m an illusionary, along with being a telepath. You could say I have an extremely vivid imagination.” Eli smiled at her as he mentally spoke the line. “And I can share it with others. I’m still practicing with the illusions, and I’ve never been able to, ah... Well, I’ve never been able to multi task like that.”
“Well, I’m certainly impressed, Eli. It was amazing.” Valentina complimented him as she sipped her beer. “You were amazing. With the illusion, and the, ah… Multitasking.”
“Don’t be embarrassed, Valentina. You can say it. I’m good in bed,” Eli blushed through his confidence. Valentina blushed with him. He reached over and held her hand with a smile. “Thank you Valentina. You are the first person I’ve shared it with.”
Valentina laced her fingers with his. She wondered if Eli had meant that he’d never shared his illusions with others, or if he had meant that he was a virgin before her. That didn’t seem right though. Valentina remembered her own first time, two years ago. It wasn’t any where nearly as enjoyable as sex with Eli. Valentina was preoccupied with him. Simply touching, looking, or thinking about him. Maybe this was love.
“How is your potpie, Valentina?” He asked. She’d barely touched her food, and his was nearly gone.
“It’s really good,” she smiled, taking a few bites to prove it. “This place was a great recommendation. Is this the pub you and Levi play at?”
“Yeah. But we both have dates tonight, so the band’s not playing tonight.” He smiled back at her. Eli squeezed her hand when he said the word “date”. This really meant something to him. Valentina squeezed back. “So, you were telling me about Tracker’s first wife back in the car?”
“Oh! Yeah, Ekaterina. So, she’s married to my father now, but there’s a lot more to the story. So I confronted my father about Tracker. You know, because he was in the journal.” Valentina took a few more bites of her dinner.
“Oh yeah, what did he say?” Eli looked up from his chicken, very interested.
“He knew him, personally. When Ekaterina escaped, she eventually made it to America.” Valentina explained. “In those reports, the escapee, that was Ekaterina. And the responding CIA agent, that was my father.”
“And he was the CIA agent that petitioned the European nations, looking for a backer for the rescue.” Eli concluded.
“Exactly. And he met Tracker, and they became friends. Best friends, as he put it. But uh… Tracker is dead. It happened when I was five.” Valentina squeezed his hand again, this time for emotional support. Eli squeezed back.
