Chapter 6:

I groaned as I heard my phone alarm go off. I blindly reached along the nigntstand until I found my phone, and I pulled it towards me. I cracked open my eyes, reading that my alarm went off right on time. Seven o'clock. Seven fucking o'clock in the morning, and I was supposed to climb out of bed, get ready for the day, and then spend my day at a quaint fucking flower shop with my goody-goody neighbor. What the hell has my life become?

I turned off my alarm and debated on whether or not I should just lie to Harry. I could tell him I was sick. I knew all of the ways to fake an illness, but I immediately scratched off that idea. I just knew Harry would be the type of neighbor to constantly check up on me, asking if I was feeling better, making soup for me, maybe even going as far as bringing over a thermometer to check my temperature and shit like that.

I climbed out of bed, sending a rather pissy message to Zayn that I did what he asked and got a job, before disappearing into the restroom to take a warm shower. I tried to bide my time in the shower, stretch it out for as long as possible, standing underneath the stream of water even after cleaning my hair and body. If I could continuously drown out sound and time the exact same way throughout the day, I would. Still, I eventually had to climb out of the shower and actually prepare for the day.

My phone rang, and I sighed as I checked the caller ID, seeing Zayn's name flashing on the screen. I swiped to answet the call, and he began talking automatically.

"Congrats on the new job. I'm sure it'll be interesting, and I hope it will build character." I could just hear the smirk in his voice. He was finally getting back at me for teasing him about Niall.

"Harry and Joan," I gritted out as I put on my shoes and grabbed my car keys.

"Excuse me?" Zayn replied, sounding completely lost on what I was talking about.

"Those are the two people I talked to this week. Harry and Joan. One's my neighbor, the other works at the local diner," I listed off, making my way outside and locking my front door. I walked over to my car, glancing at Harry's house to see that his car wasn't in the driveway. I wondered briefly how early he woke up.

"I hope you aren't lying, Louis. I'm going to make Payne run a search on them to make sure they're real people. You know he's the best at what he does, so I'll give you one chance to tell me the truth if you're lying."

"I'm not lying," I rolled my eyes, "Payne can search them up all he wants. They're real people. Sometimes it's hard to believe such obnoxiously nice people exist," I mumbled.

    "Alright, I believe you."

I opened my car door and climbed inside, shutting it after I was seated and putting the keys in the ignition.

"You're still going to run the checks, aren't you?"

"Oh yeah," Zayn confirmed, and I shook my head, even if he couldn't see it. "So, what job did you manage to scoop up?"

"Nothing special," I murmured, leaning forward over my steering wheel. I glanced at the time and saw that I still had a while before I was supposed to be at the shop with Harry.
