Anyway, onto my ideological perspective that questions other theological prerequisites, speculating that there's no retribution or redemption in the hereafter:
Let's hypothesize that The Will of God is the creation of some incredibly perceptive and smart people, who for whatever reason choose to define it this way.
The original basic intent could have been as simple as keeping our ancestors in line, before evolving to undermine those who became powerful enough to have dominion over life and death and thought of themselves as gods.
