CHAPTER SIX: SWEETHEART

+++

There's a small saying that everyone knows; dropping a pin in silence would be heard. I never believed it but as of right now, if it was to happen, the statement would be accurate. The room that contained us was scarily silent, my eyes flickering between the men; the truth not sinking yet.

Out of nowhere, I throw my head back and laugh forcefully, knowing that I've got their attention on my reaction for sure. I compose myself not long after, bringing myself back to them and reality. I sigh as I comment,

"Whoo that was funny. Now tell me this isn't true,"

They both give each other a look before looking back at me. The silence longing out a little, neither of them correcting me and that's when everything started to fall in place. My face looses the humor, seriousness dropping like a bomb. I speak up, not admitting the truth still,

"You're joking right? You're just holding the silence to build tension..."

I trailed off. I still got no response,

"Say something!"

I exclaim, my heartbeat now beginning to ring in my ear. Adrian shuffles on his feet and that's when I see it. The slightest shuffle he did made me see it. Behind him, was a name plate which was written in bold; shining in acknowledgement and confidence. CEO. MR NOAH KING.

Everything felt like it was moving in slow motion. The room becoming twice as big than it seemed. I blinked a few times, my mind now becoming dizzy. I must've swayed a little because before I knew it, my legs became shaky.

I stumbled on my feet a little, the action going noticed as an arm reaches out and steadies me in place, rooting me to the ground. The hold that was on me burns, I look down at the contact before looking up at who held me. My breath hitches.

Emerald eyes meet my own and I don't know how to take it. A wave of emotion passes by and it's hard to put what it is. He tilts his head a little like he's trying to decode me. I blink like a deer caught in headlights.

It was only then when everything hit me all at once.

The guy that held me and made me burn with his touch was the CEO. The guy that was friends with Adrian was him, the CEO. The guys' arms who I fell into earlier was his, storming and making a mess right now, his. The CEO of King Enterprise. Noah King.

Like multiple warning signs going off at once, I pull myself away. I fumble backwards away from the both of them, stuttering out the words that fail to leave in a full sentence,

"This... this isn't real... I... I can't be here. I need to go,"

I point behind me where the doors are still open, my feet taking steps backwards. Adrian gives me a look as he takes a step forward, ready to say something but I beat him to it, my attention on the CEO himself,

"I am so sorry for the disruption that I have caused Mr King, I think it's best if I get back to work now,"

I turn fully, not daring to see the both of them. My eyes fixate on the door but I know I've got eyes, his eyes, watching me. Swallowing down the nerves I start to walk but I don't make it far before I feel a hand on my shoulder, halting me in place.

I turn my head to the side, seeing Adrian now stood behind me. He's all serious now, all smiles wiped off. He takes his hand off his shoulder to comb it through his blonde hair and comments,

"I think you need stay back for a bit,"

"But..."

I start but don't get far as Adrian already uses the excuse that I was going to use,
