Chapter 1
Destined For Terrible, But Great Things
" You go on ahead, dear." Mother told me, gently pushing me toward the door that lead to Diagon Alley. " Aren't you coming with me?" I asked and she glanced around the room with a frown, before shaking her head. " I'm sorry, dear." She whispered, before walking over to sit down in the corner of the room, the hood of her cloak pulled over head to hide her face. I knew why she wouldn't come with me, but that didn't stop me from hoping that she would. I pushed open the old wooden door before stepping into alleyway outside, it was completely normal looking until I approached the crumbling brick wall. The wall broke apart and rearranged it's self until a pathway opened up to reveal a crowded street of shops and stalls. People rushed from one store to the next, none paying me any attention as I made my way through to the wizarding bank at the end of the street.
I was just about to pull the door open when a large hand did it for me and I turned to see a large man attached to that hand. " Thank you." I told him before ducking inside.
" Your very welcome." He called out. I made my way to the end of the large hall where a creature with beady black eyes and thinning hair sat with a large quill. He looked up as I came to stop and glared at me. " I would like to make a withdrawal."
" Name?" He asked and I glanced behind me as the large man stepped forward with a very skinny looking boy around my age. I looked back to the goblin and said, with clear annoyance. " Emrys Riddle." I produced a small silver key from the pocket of my robes and placed it on the desk in front of him.
The man behind me stiffened but the goblin nodded in response before I took my key back and stepped toward a small goblin was waiting to take me down to my vault, but as I followed him I heard the large man tell the goblin behind the desk. " Mr. Potter would like to make a withdrawal. "
I knew that I would meet him sooner or later, but I wasn't expecting to see him until we reached Hogwarts. I wasn't worried about him though, I had nothing against this kid. Not yet at least.
***********
I decided to do all my other school shopping before going to get my wand, and as I pushed open the door of the shop, I found the shopkeeper, Mr. Ollivander already had a costumer. " I'll be right with you." A voice called out from the back before a man with white hair appeared holding a small box. When he saw me, he nearly dropped the box in surprise but as he started to say something I shook my head with a pleading look before glancing toward the Potter who's back was to me. He seemed to understand and regained his calm. " Emrys, my dear, how's your mum?"
" She's doing fine, thank you for asking." I said politely and he smiled at me before opening the box and holding out it's contents for Potter to take. Once the wand was in his hand, he gave it a wave and a vase on the other side of the room exploded. " Nope." Mr. Ollivander sighed and I giggled as the boy's face went bright red with embarrassment. " Feel free to try that one, my dear." Mr. Ollivander called out. I took the wand from Potter and gave it quick flick. There was the sound of crashing before boxes began to fly off their shelves. " Definitely not." Mr. Ollivander called out and I set the wand down with a sheepish grin on my face.
The shopkeeper came back with another wand after a few minutes of searching and held the wand out for him to take, Mr. Ollivander had a curious look on his face and I silently wondered what he was up to as he came around the desk. Harry took the wand from and I glanced around when a breeze suddenly began to blow at his hair; well that was dramatic. " Curious." Mr. Ollivander said. " Very curious."
" Sorry, but what's curious?"
" I remember every wand I've ever sold, Mr. Potter, it so happens that the phoenix, who's tail feather resides in your wand, gave another feather. Just one other. It is curious that you are destined for this wand, when it's brother, gave you that scar." He said motioning to Potter's forehead.
" And who owned that wand?" He asked. I looked away as Mr. Ollivander gave his answer. " We do not speak his name. The wand chooses the wizard, Mr. Potter. It is not always clear why, but I think it is clear, that we can expect great things from you, Mr. Potter. After all, he-who-must-not-be-named, did great things, terrible...but great."
Harry paid for his wand before leaving and once he was gone, Mr. Ollivander turned to look at me with a kind smile. " We are not our parents, Miss Riddle." He told me.
" I wish everyone thought the way you do about it, those who know at least."
" Enough of that now, we have a wand to find." He said and I nodded before watching as he disappeared back into the shelves.
