Chapter 5

Operation: Glitter Bomb

Spencer glanced over from his seat on Cass's right before going back to his work with a smirk, Cass had fallen asleep not long after Class had started. I smirked before leaning back in my chair with a sigh, just as Harry and Ron came running into the classroom. They, of course, were caught coming into class late by McGonagall, who jumped out of cat form from the desk at the front of the room. Our transfiguration teacher was an animagus, someone who could transform into an animal at will. " That was so cool." Cass whispered, nearly making me fall out of my chair and I stared at her.

The next class we had was potions and it was clear halfway through it how this year was going to go. Snape, the potions professor, kept calling out Harry for no reason and taking points from Gryffindor. Cass and I had teamed up to make the potion he had assigned, and I could tell that she and this professor were getting along just as well as he and Harry were, minus the point taking. I had to stop her from chucking a horned slug at the back of his head. I had nothing against this professor, not yet at least. His name was on the list of people who had once severed my father, but mom said that he could be trusted, unlike the others.

I was just about to add the porcupine quills when one of the cauldrons near by exploded, leaving several people to climb on to their chair to avoid being hit the leaking mess. Snape of course blamed Harry and took more points from his house. This was obviously not his day.

We were on our way to the Great Hall for lunch when we heard an explosion and turned just in time to see Jackie running down the hall. A few minutes later, the caretaker, Filtch, and his cat Mrs. Norris, came running down the hall covered in bright, sparkly pink glitter.

" Should we be worried?" I asked as they disappeared.

" Nah, she's probably fine." Cass responded before we continued on our way to the Great Hall. It wasn't until we reached the Great Hall for dinner that night that we learned the full damage of Jackie's prank. She had set off three explosives in different locations within Hogwarts. The first we had seen happen, the second had went off not long after her first potion's class, and the third...well the third, it went off the moment Dumbledore sat down in his chair that night.

Everyone thought it was Fred and George Weasley, the twin Gryffindors and older brothers of Ron, that was until Jackie stood up and bowed to a laughing Dumbledore who very much enjoyed the joke that had been played on him, he even awarded her 10 points for her cleverness.

" Hey, Emrys." I heard Jackie call out as she, Cass, and Spencer made their way down from the castle. I was leaning against a tree with my knees pulled up and a letter in my lap, while my bag sat on the ground next to me. " What are you doing?" Jackie asked as they approached and I held the letter up for them to see. " That from your mum?" Cass asked and I nodded before carefully folding it back up and slipping it in my bag. " Where were you during flying lessons today? You missed the Malfoy smack down that Harry delivered."

" I didn't see a point to it, seeing as I already know how to fly a broom. As for the Malfoy smack down, what happened?" I questioned, causing Spencer and Cass to launch into a very detailed recalling of what had happened. When they were done, we made our way back up to the castle for charms class while Jackie went off to transfiguration. I enjoyed charms much more then I did many of my other lessons, and found the class to be very easy and Cass agreed with me, but that wasn't really saying much since Cass enjoyed any class that wasn't by Snape.

Another class that I might have found interesting, had it been taught by someone, was Defense Against the Dark Arts taught by Professor Quirrell, a man who stuttered a lot, wore a large purple turban, and smelled like garlic. He also weirded me out a bit because every time I would look up from my text book, or from writing down something off the large chalk board, I would catch him staring at me. The man also hovered, and did not know the concept of personal space.

Cass didn't seem to notice this though, because she was to concerned with trying to steal the turban off his head, I didn't understand why she wanted it, but she had managed to convince Spencer to help her get it. Jackie tried to help them, but after a week she gave up and went back to working on her next prank. I stayed out of it completely, not wishing to be near the stuttering professor anymore then I had to. I often found myself sitting alone outside, or in the library studying by myself, though I was often joined the bushy haired, muggleborn, Hermione Granger. She talked a lot, but I enjoyed the company when she offered it.
