Chapter 10
Win Some, Lose Some
Madam Pomfrey let me out of the hospital wing the next day, and in exchange got Spencer for the evening as he recovered from his experiment, meaning that he was going to miss the end . Harry hadn't woken up yet, but Pomfrey said that he would soon. I was called up to Dumbledore's office not long after I got out, and when I arrived at the statue that stood at the foot of the staircase I found Professor McGonagall waiting for me. " Toffee éclairs." She called out as I stopped next to the statue and I raised eyebrow in confusion before the statue began to shift. " Through the door at the top of the stairs." She told me and I nodded but as she was about to walk away I asked. " Your scared of me, aren't you?"
" Why would you think that, Miss Riddle?" She asked in surprise.
" When I was sorted, I saw the look on your face. My mom got the same look on her face when I asked her about my dad the first time." I admitted and she let out a sigh before placing a gentle hand on my shoulder. " It was more surprise, dear. As you know, there are not many people who know his true name in this world, just as there were not many people who knew that he had a daughter. As far as I have seen, and as much as I know, you are nothing like him, Miss Riddle."
" Thank you, Professor." I told her before climbing the stairs to Dumbledore's office. I heard voice coming from the other side, but they went quiet when I knocked on the door. " Enter." A voice called out and I pushed the door open, just as Snape was exiting, an annoyed look on his face as he passed me; or was that his normal expression. " Come in, Miss Riddle. I believe there is much to speak about." Dumbledore called out and I approached the headmaster's desk.
*************
After my conversation with Dumbledore, I went down to the Great Hall for the end of the year feast. Cass shoved a very pointy black hat on my head and I made a face at her in annoyance. Dumbledore announced the winner of the house cup after awarding several points to Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Neville for their bravery. Cheers rang out as it was announced that Gryffindor was the winner, though the only cheers that rang out from the Slytherin table belonged to me and Cass.
When it was time to go down to the train, Spencer, Cass, and I met Jackie at the large door leading outside. We linked arms as we walked and huge grins crossed our faces as we followed after the other first years. On each of our wrists was a single ribbon: Slytherin green for me, Hufflepuff yellow for Jackie, Multicolored for Spencer unless his family member's were near then it went either black or silver, and for Cass was a white ribbon with a moving dragon on it. A symbol that we would always be together, no matter where we went.
I knew that my father was still out there somewhere, and that one day, hopefully not to soon, he would return. I didn't know what my future held, but I knew that I was willing to fight for it.
