I watch in disbelief as Mrs. Fox strolls into her office, me quickly standing and walking in after her. I go into the vanilla smelling room and walk over to her desk, her typing some things into her computer.
I see Faith pouting in one of the chairs by the wall, but she’s too consumed in playing with her hair to notice me.
“Mrs. Fox, you can’t be serious about that, right?! He’s a bad kid, like someone who has a really bad influence on me and I don-” She holds a finger up to me as she presses the enter key on her pink keyboard.
“Shayne, it’s only for one day until you show him around.”
“And then you’ll give him or me a new schedule?” She shakes her head as if it was obvious. “No, I don’t have time for that. You remember, right?” I meekly nod my head. “Besides, you don’t have to ‘hang out’ with him. Just show him the school today, and then stay away from him, simple as that.”
Oh but it wasn’t so simple sweet, naïve Mrs. Fox.
“What about electives?! How can he come with me in Orchestra and Photography?” She ponders over my question and then types more things into the computer. I watch impatiently as she furrows her brow, and looks at me.
“Seems like he’s taking the same courses. You’re in luck!” She’s so sweet, but so very, very ignorant. I am not in luck, and I am not happy.
“Now, I have to hurry and get to work, your schedule is on my printer. There should be two of them, one for you and one for him.” I put on a sad face and stomp outside, groaning in my head.
Dear God, why him? Sincerely, me.
I look to the printer and sure enough, there are two white schedules laying on top. I see Harry out of the corner of my eye, not daring to look at him. If my peripheral vision serves me good, then he is obviously staring at me. If not, then my imagination hates me.
I shift uncomfortably as I look over my schedule, reading who my teachers are and what classes are there. “Who do we have?” I hear his raspy voice say on the other side of the room.
“Give me a minute?” I snap, now locking eyes with him. He sees this as a game as he taunts me further. “One, two, three, four, five, six…”
“Oh my God, shut the fuck up!” I partially scream, covering my mouth when I realize where we are. He finds it amusing as he chuckles, making me scowl at him.
“Okay sweetheart. Where to first?” I clench my jaw and give him my most intimidating death glare that I can conjure up and walk out of the office.
I walk quickly out of the door, making no effort to hold it open for him, walking further out of the hallway. I hear the door swing back open behind me, feeling a wave of cold wind hit my back.
“We’re going to English first….” I mumble, not waiting for him as I walk ahead, making him scoff behind me. “Wow! I thought I was rude, but you are…” I turn around and glare at him, him seemingly not affected as he smiles and jogs up to me.
