As they neared the house where the party was being held, Preston reached for Alec's hand. Alec pulled away, but then saw the hurt flash in his hazel eyes.

"It's just, I can't right now. Okay?" Alec spat out.

Preston nodded and his smile fell. "Okay. "

The party was huge with humans and downworlders alike; the humans unaware of the otherworldly creatures lurking about. Girls with pink hair danced and grinded against warlocks and werewolves. Alec made a beeline for the bar.
Preston turned to speak to Alec and found him to be gone. He sighed, but he had expected as much. He killed time by dancing with a half naked blue haired man who really seemed to enjoy hair pulling. Preston laughed and actually genuinely smiled. He was having fun. He looked over the bar to see Alec limply slouched over the bar. We've only been here about two hours.. he thought. He made his way over to the blue eyed boy.

"Alec, come on. I guess we can go home." Preston made a move to wrap his arm around him when stood on his own.

"No. I'm halving sum fan," Alec slurred.

His smile was only induced by alcohol and Preston knew that. He attempted to help Alec again when he pushed away from him.

"Stop!" he shouted, and glared at Preston.

Preston's knees felt weak. They always did when Alec looked at him like that.

"I said I'm having a good time!" Alec hissed.

"No you're not. You're just drunk!" Preston argued.

Their eyes met. Alec's blue eyes burning with intensity and Preston's urging and understanding.

Alec stood up again and tapped the shoulder of a brightly pigmented man. He turned to face Alec, and Preton gasped. Alec smashed his lips to the other guy's, and made a show of it. Some girls hollered while another young man tried to include himself on the action, groping at Alec.

Preston's eyes filled with tears and they burned with anger.

Alec broke away from the kiss and smirked at Preston. "See? Fun."

Preston grabbed Alec by he collar of his grey t-shirt and dragged him outside.

"Alec, I can't! I can't take it! The beatings, both emotional and physical! I loved you. I still love you, but you obviously don't return the feeling! You're drunk 90 percent of the time and that's the only time you'll even touch me!!" The tears kept leaking from Preston's burning eyes.

Alec stood, mouth open. But instead if an apology, Alec simply stood there. He didn't deny it.

"We're done. I'm done. And you're so far gone, I think you never started." Preston whimpered out. Then he stormed off, leaving Alec at the front of the party, as rain began to pour down in cold, icy blasts.

--------------

Magnus walked to the party, and with a little help from his magic, was able to stay dry on the way. He walked up to the warehouse. And he noticed something. Rather someone. But he already knew who it was.

"A-Alec?" he questioned.

The boy lifted his head, his blue eyes round and obviously stunned. "Magnus?"

Magnus' anger flared and he grabbed the boy, pulling him to his feet. "What the hell are you doing here!" he hissed.

Alec simply stared.

Magnus could practically smell booze leaking off him. Oh, my poor darling, he thought. His heart ached, and he desperately wanted to press himself against the shadowhunter. If it weren't for his anger, that is.

Alec stuttered as he tried to speak. "M-Magnus... You're here. You're really here.." Alec trailed off. Suddenly it hit him. Preston. The party. His ex-boyfriend gripping his shirt tightly and his proximity to his own face. He could feel Magnus's breath, warm against his face.

"Alec, what the hell is wrong with you!? You're wasted right now!!!" Magnus shouted at Alec.

Alec had tears brimming in his eyes, threatening to spill over.

"Can you walk?" Magnus asked in all seriousness. I have to get him home, Magnus thought, Or else he'll himself killed.

Alec tried to stand, but immediately fell back to the floor. He started crying. No wait. Bawling.

"Shhhh Alec. Alec stop, it's okay. I'm here now," Magnus said while stroking the younger boy's head. He wrapped his slender arms around him carefully, almost like you would approach a stray dog.

Alec choked on a sob.

"It's okay Alec, I got you now. Everything will be okay," Magnus whispered in Alec's ear as he carried him down the street. "Why were you there, Alec?" Magnus asked.
It took Alec a few moments to comprehend and answer the question.

"I was... Dare... witmy boyfriend," Alec said, his words slurring.

"Boyfriend?" Magnus's eyes widened as he spoke. "Why wasn't he with you then?"

"He bwoke up with me," he whispered, "Because he said I'd never loverdhim the wray he loved me."

"Oh? And why is that?" Magnus whispered back.

Alec didn't answer, he only gripped Magnus' tight shirt and pressed his face into the fabric.

Magnus could feel Alec's heartbeat, the slowing of the paces. Too slow. "Alec, baby, how many drinks have you had...?" he asked quietly.

Alec seemed to crack a smile, barely a smile. A shadow of what it used to be. "Today?" he asked.

Magnus shook his head. "Alec, we need to get you home." Magnus could feel Alec tense in his arms.

"Home," Alec repeated.

As Magnus approached his flat, he unlocked and opened the doors with a snap. "Alright, we're here, Alec. We're here." Magnus looked down at Alec, only he didn't look back at him.

He was limp in Magnus arms, and now that Magnus could focus, he could barely hear a heart beat. "A-Alec? Alec! Wake up, come on!"

Magnus had laid him on his beige comforter. Immediately, he attempted to heal him. Blue sparks flew as he worked furiously.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Alec woke up, choking and coughing. He was still weak, struggling to keep his eye open under the weight of his eyelids.

Magnus leaned down and stroked his head, "Alec, please, you need to stay awake. You drank way to much. Alexander, are you listening? Can you hear me?" There was panic in his voice.

Alec laid there, perfectly still.

But Magnus thought he heard something. "What was that darling?" he whispered. He leaned in close so he could hear the beautiful broken blue eyed boy.

"I-I love you..." he whispered as softly as the beat of a butterfly's wings.

Magnus' voice caught in his throat, his eyes brimmed with tears. "I love you too, Alexander. I've always loved you."
