'I want to break up with you.'

She pushed me out of the apartment door, and slammed it behind my back.

I could hear the twins crying inside.

Flynn trying to calm her down.

And her, the girl I loved, sobbing.

No, there must be some misunderstanding.

I went back to the door and knocked on it, 'Mariposa, I know you're upset right now. We can always sort this out together, I'll always be here when you need me.'

A loud bang on the door indicated my rejection.

A message popped up on my phone, so I checked it immediately.

Meet me at the park tomorrow.

It was Flynn.

-------------------------------------------------------

'Flynn, what's going on with Mariposa? I'm so worried about her,' I told Flynn as soon as I saw him.

'Jeez, your under eye bags, it's bigger than my future,' Flynn commented bluntly.

Well, you could try and be worried about your lover for the whole night without sleeping.

' So what happened?' Mariposa was my only concern.

'She's very unstable now.'

No shit.

'Why is she unstable?'

He sighed, it was after a few seconds that he started speaking again,' she found out that her dad owed your family's bank a shit load of money, that's why he and his wife committed suicide.'

Shit.

My girlfriend's father killed himself because my family business.

That's why she hated my guts now.

Fair enough.

No, it's not! Stupid conscience.

' Yeah, so if I were you, I'd just leave her alone for now,' Flynn suggested.

' But... I love her.'

'Yeah and so do I, Liam,' Flynn replied, more emotional now, 'I know we both do. But let her think for a bit, she's a sensible girl. Just give her some space.'

Despite judging me, I could see the tension on Flynn's face. He himself was worn out, too.

I sighed, 'ok, but could you keep me update on Mariposa and the boys, please?'

He nodded, 'no problem, Liam. Take care.'

'Thanks, and you too.'

-------------------------------------------------------

I drove home in the afternoon as soon as the afternoon tutorials were over.

'Hello Liam,' our butler Alfred greeted me.

'Where's mum and dad?' Trust me, I'm normally so nice to workers at my house, but it's an emergency right now.

'Your mother is in the garden, and your father will be coming back in 15 minutes.'

'Cheers, Fred.'

I ran out to the garden, where mum was watering her orchids.

'Mum, do you remember the IT company T Wills?'

'Hello, Liam. A few years in London with some random street rat friends and your manners are all gone,' Mum replied.

I took a deep breath, 'Sorry, mum. It's urgent, could you just answer my questions, please?'

She sat down on her garden bench, crossing her legs slowly and had a sip of her tea.

Ugh, be patient, Scott.

'Yes, I do remember,' she said, 'you know how much money they owed us?'

'Oh, so you knew about it?'

'Of course, even though I don't go to the company anymore, I still know about our business.'

'So you knew about Mariposa, too?'

'What about Mariposa?' My dad's voice appeared out of nowhere.

'Dad, the IT company T Wills owed us a lot of money, right?'

'Yes, you're correct, and their owner committed suicide,' he had a sip of his tea which Alfred prepared, 'you know how much money the bank lost because of that?'

'Dad! How could you still care about money when we're talking about someone's death?'

'I run the company, how could I not care about our own asset?' His face was reddening.

'Josh, calm down,' mum tried to calm him down.

'Because that man was Mariposa's father!' I yelled out that sentence.

They both stopped talking, widened eyes staring at me in awe.

'And because of this, she broke up with me,' I finally lowered my voice, realised how rude I was just now.

Mum came and sat next to me, 'Liam, darling, I'm so sorry that she broke up with you.'

She continued, 'but if she broke up with you because of something which was completely not your fault, that girl doesn't deserve you.'

I looked up at her, I knew she was looking at a mother's point of view, but how could she say that?

I stood up and started walking inside, my mum asked, 'Liam, where are you going?'

I replied without looking back, 'to my room.'

I'm no longer fit to drive back to London. I just needed some rest here.
