If there was one thing Stark knew how to do it was throw a party. Music played loudly, but not too loudly so people could still here each other. There a self serving bar that Black Widow seemed to be controlling, it appeared making drinks could be added to her many lists of talents.
Thor talked to some older gentleman and Steve played pool with Sam Wilson. Steve. If Tony was in a Disney movie he would be on one knee pronouncing his undying love for the man. Everyone knew Steve was pansexual after one of the Avengers had asked about how a date went, they had simply thought it had been with a woman but to their surprise Steve had turned around asked what made them think it was with a woman.
Oh well, Steve seemed more interested in the lovely Sharon Carter than the secretly bisexual billionaire. Tony, none of the less let his eyes wonder around the room, a successful turn out it seems. Tony turned back to Rhodey who was telling some story, Thor had joined them know and the War Machine was just finishing up whatever he was saying.
"But, you know, the suit can take the weight, right? So I take the tank fly it right up to the general's palace, drop it at his feet. I'm, like, 'Boom. You looking for this?' 'Boom. Are you looking for...' Why do I even talk to you guys? Everyone else that story kills." Rhodey blubbers.
"And that's the whole story?" Thor smiles.
"Yeah, it's a War Machine story." Rhodey says trying to regain some of his lost confidence.
"It's very good, then." The God Of Thunder lies, "It's impressive."
Rhodey rolls his eyes, "Quality save." He says, sensing the lie."Where's Pepper?" Rhodey asks changing the subject.
"She's, uh, got a company to run." Tony mutters slightly.
"Yeah guys, where are the ladies?!" Maria Hill asks from now beside Rhodey.
"I'm not sure what country Jane is in right now. She's the world's foremost astronomer, there's talk of her getting a Noble Prize." Thor marvels."Yeah, well the company Pepper runs...." Tony drones off as Maria turns to Rhodey rolling her eyes at the weird competition between the two men.
"Testosterone." She coughs out.
"Oh my goodness. Need a lozenge? Rhodey smiles."What is going on between you and Pepper?" Maria asks out of the blue.
"Oh, you know the lovely Pepper Potts found a lovely Harold Hogan and now they are lovely together." Tony says looking at the ground. "None of the less I wish them well."***
"Sounds like a hell of a fight, I'm sorry I missed it." Sam Wilson smiled at Steve's overview of the fight at Strucker's Fortress.
"If I would have known it was going to be a firefight I definitely would have called." Steve justified.
Sam smiled widder, "I'm not actually sorry, I'm just trying to sound tough. I'm very happy chasing cold leads on our missing persons case. Avenging is your world, your world is crazy. Have you found a place in Brooklyn?"Steve laughed, "I don't think I can afford one." He smiled, gaze wondering out the glass window overviewing the party, eyes resting on Tony. Tony must have sensed someone looking at him and looked towards the Captain. Steve held the gaze fore 6 seconds, pupils dilatated, then he quickly looked away blushing ever so slighly.
"You know for a super soldier spy your not very good at hiding emotions." Sam teased.
"Hmm? What?" Steve asked innocently, stealing another gaze at Tony who had turned back to Thor and Rhodey.***
"I'm gone guys." I left after my story fail with Thor and Tony. Tony had only been half listening, half watching someone up in the higher levels of this massive 'party room'. Oh well, everyone else loves that story o'mine.
"I say boom, you looking for this?" I finish and everyone laughs. Yes. That is the reaction I'm supposed to get.***
"I've gotta have some of that." A man I had been talking to approaches me.
"This?" I hold up the silver flask in my hands. "No, no, no, no, you see this. This was aged for 1,000 years from the barrels built from the wreck of Grunhel's fleet. It was not meant for mortal men." I state smiling."Nether was Omaha beach, blondie." This man wouldn't cease it seems. "Stop trying to scare us, come on." I sigh.
"Alright." Steve looks at me with concern as I pour the man a shot.It didn't take long for two men to have to carry him out as he mutters, "Excelsior" Mortal men are so weird.
***
"How did a nice girl like you wind up working in a dump like this?" I ask Nat as she poured me something pinkish-red.
"Fella done me wrong." She smiles playing along to my attempt at a flirtatious game.
"Got lousy taste in men kid." I smile back, obviously we both watch to many black and white detective films."He's not so bad." She looks away, playing with a straw behind the counter, "Well he has a temper. Deep down he's all fluff. Fact is, he's not anyone I've ever known. All my friends are fighters, then here comes this guy, spends his life avoiding the fight, because he knows he'll win." I'm beginning to think she's talking about me.
"Sounds amazing." I manage to say.
"He's also a huge dork." I laugh at her insult, "Chicks dig that." She quips in. "So what do you think, should I fight it or run with it?" Oh my gosh I really think she is talking about me."Run with it, right? Or did he... Was he... What did he do that was so wrong to you?" I stutter, god I'm such an idiot, yet I'm still worried about her reply.
"Not a damn thing." She looks up from beneath eyelashes, "But never say never." And with that she walks off."It's nice." A voice says from behind me, I whip around. Even though there is nothing I could do angainst whoever was there. Steve laughs softly.
"What... What is?" I ask shocked.
"You and Romanoff." He replies, oh, I can feel my eyes widen.
"No, we haven't... That wasn't" I attempt to justify, but Steve just laughs softly again.
"It's okay, nobody's breaking any bylaws. It's just she's not the most open person in the world, but with you she seems very relaxed." Steve explains."No. Natasha, she's just... She likes to flirt." I try to justify myself again, but it doesn't work.
"I've seen her flirt, up close." Steve grabs a beer from behind the counter, "This ain't that. Look, as maybe the worlds leading authority on waiting too long. Don't. You both deserve a win." And with that the Captain nods and walks off.
"What do mean 'up close'?" Flustered I ask, but he's gone.***
Tony found Steve is standing like wall flower, near the door.
"Gearing up to go?" Tony asks as he walks towards the man, alcohol on his breath.
"Just not a big fan of parties." Steve sighs, placing his beer on the near by table.
"It couldn't have been all bad" Tony laughs.
"I guess not." Steve nods in agreement to the statement.Tony walks closer, "You know I saw you looking at me." Steve hides a blush as Tony smiles at the effect he has on the man. Tony is so close now his chest is touching the Captain's, their lips millimetres apart. In seconds the soldiers had captured them and turned Tony against the wall. Their kiss was passionate and deep, Tony slipping his tongue into the other man's mouth, hand slipping lower making Steve moan.
"Wait. I won't do this while your drunk." Steve sighed pulling his mouth away, leaving his body still the Ironman's embrace. "If you really like me, come back when you sober." With that the man had disappeared into the small crowd leaving Tony alone and wondering.
