As Jess reached the chapel of the sanitorium, she immediately noticed that it was in considerably worse shape than it had been earlier in the night. She walked up the stairs nearby, more than happy to find a shotgun and a box full of ammo. After stuffing her pockets with spare bullets, she struggled to recall the map she had seen earlier. As she began making her way towards what she hoped was the psychiatric wing, her little friend from before approached her happily.
"Aww, hey there big guy!" She smiled as she patted the wolf's head. "Glad to see a familiar face." The wolf simply stared up at her, it's tail wagging a mile a minute. Jess giggled.
"Alright, here's what we're gonna do. If that map was accurate, then there should be an entrance to the mine right outside the psychiatric wing. We gotta get there to find Sammy. You think we can do it?" The wolf simply barked in response, earning a laugh from Jess. "Couldn't have said it better myself."
With that, the wolf turned away from her and made it's way towards the psychiatric wing. On the way, they walked through a fenced in path that connected the building. Through the bars, Jess could see crooked graves sticking up from the ground, the tops of them covered in snow and the engraving barely visible. She tried to push any dark thoughts she had from her mind as she pressed on, becoming determined to get the hell out.
"Wish I could move like you, buddy!" Jess called as the wolf ran ahead of her and into the psychiatric wing.
As the duo continued to walk through the decrepit halls, Jess couldn't shake the feeling of being watched. That feeling only grew stronger as they approached a cell with the corpse of the while wolf from earlier hanging off the bars, it's entrails spilled and blood dripping onto the concrete floor. Jess heard her companion whimper
"Oh my god... the poor thing..." Jess mumbled as she patted the black wolf's head, attempting to comfort it.
After grieving for a moment or two, the wolf backed away and continued to wander down the hall. Not wanting to get lost, Jess followed, finding several rather disturbing documents along the way. After turning a corner, they found themselves in a rather large open room littered with debris. A small container fell forward suddenly, causing Jess to jump. Not moment later, a wendigo jumped out of hiding and screeched, the sound bouncing off the walls and making Jess's ears ring. She quickly raised her gun and shot it point blank, not wanting to become it's next meal.
"How's that feel, ya fuck?!" She taunted the creature as she ran down the hall with her furry companion in hot pursuit.
Upon seeing an open door in the hall, she quickly ducked into the room and began piling debris in the doorway the moment her friend was at her side. She could hear the monster's blood curdling screams from just past the door, so she took off running before it ripped the door off the hinges.
Once they finally slowed down, they found themselves at the entrance to a long hallway of cells. The black wolf growled, causing Jess to grow tense as she slowly began to walk down the hall. As she passed one of the cells, a thin, rotting arm reached out and managed to grab one of Jess's already messy braids. She quickly shot the monster, causing it to crawl backwards again.
"This has got to be a bad dream..." Jess mumbled to herself as she shot back another wendigo who attempted to lunge at her.
Just as she was about to reach the end of the seemingly endless hallway, an unrestrained wendigo jumped down from the ceiling and screeched, causing Jess and her wolf to break out into a sprint. She found herself stuck behind a door that was wedged shut, with two hungry wendigos on her tail. The black wolf barked at the monsters and growled as they jumped and crawled around on the walls.
Not wanting to allow them to get any closer, Jess noticed another one of the barrels from earlier in the night. She quickly pulled it onto its side and kicked it forward, causing it to roll towards the wendigos. She took aim and shot the barrel, causing an explosion that not only knocked the door open, but also burned both monsters alive. She didn't stick around long enough to hear their shrieks.
Hoping that she could finally breathe a sigh of relief, Jess quickly locked the previously wedged-shut door, then pushed a cabinet in front of it for good measure. Seeing only one way out of the room, she jumped down the hole in the floor that seemed to lead to a basement. She turned around and looked up, only to see her companion staring down at her.
"You comin, bud?" She asked. She watched it simply back away from the hole and wander off. "I don't blame you..." she said as she turned and surveyed the room. She silently cheered as she found the exit, then silently cursed upon finding it locked. As if that wasn't bad enough, another wendigo jumped down through the hole, screeching in what Jess can only assume is anger. She took aim at the monster and shot it off the wall, hoping that she had enough bullets to keep it at bay.Mike awoke with a groan, feeling the floor of the elevator shaft dig into his bare skin. She stood up shakily, wrapping his arms around himself in hopes of saving any body heat he could. He tried his best to look around and gain his bearings, but his head was pounding, his body was aching, and wherever he had ended up was dark and hard to see in. He stumbled forward, barely managing to keep himself from falling.
"Son of a bitch..." he mumbled to himself.
It seemed that maybe fate wasn't as cruel as he thought, since he was able to find a pair of boots and an old jacket.
'Better than just a pair of boxers...' he thought to himself bitterly.
Just as he was about to keep moving, a loud screech caused him to nearly jump out of his skin. 'What the fuck was that?!' He wondered to himself, not daring to move just yet.
