With Josh gone, Sam, Chris, and Ashley set up the spirit board. Sam started to light candles while Ashley pretended to read the instructions that came with the board.
"Okay, so it says here, 'in order to communicate with the spirit world, you must clear your mind of all preconceptions, drop your inhibitions, and of course, generally turn your will over to the spirit master who, ironically enough, is me-" she joked.
Chris scoffed. "There's no way it says that."
"-and all present will remove their garments at my sole discretion-"
"Ash c'mon, this is serious." Sam interrupted.
Ashley slammed her hands against the table and leaned over it to get in Sam's face. "I'm deadly serious." She replied, struggling to keep herself from laughing.
"Oh hush. Let's just get on with this." Chris said, slightly jealous of how close Sam and Ash were.
"Fine." Ashley said as she sat back down in her chair properly. Everyone put one hand on the board, as if to activate it. "Alright Chris, since you're new at this whole thing, why don't you be our medium for today?" Ash suggested.
"Okay... uh... is anybody here?" Chris asked to nobody in particular. "Will you, uh, show yourself if you're here?"
With everyone's finger on the pointer, it started to move towards the center.
"Woah, wait a minute-" Ash started.
"Did you do that?" Sam asked.
"I didn't do anything..." Chris answered.
"It's moving again!" Ash pointed out, seeming suddenly very interested.
"H...E...L...P..." Chris spelled out.
"Holy shit..." Sam muttered.
"Help?" Chris repeated.
"How are we supposed to help?" Ash asked.
"I don't know, what does it mean?"
"Well, we need to know who we're talking to if we wanna help."
"Who are you?" Chris asked. "Oh no, there it goes..."
"T..."
"W..."
"I..."
"N... twin?" He finished.
"Oh my god..." Sam said, sounding slightly panicked.
"Sam... I-it's gotta be-"
"Yeah? Well... w-which twin is it then?" She asked.
"Who are we speaking to... Beth...? Is that you...?" Chris asked.
The color drained from everyone's face as they watched the pointer moved to 'YES'.
"Oh shit-"
"This is messed up..." Ash muttered.
"Sam? Are you-?"
"I can handle it." Sam said flatly.
"Are you sure? We can stop now." Chris said.
"No, I wanna hear what it says!" She snapped.
"I don't know where to start..." Chris said nervously.
"Well, think about it... if this really is Beth, maybe she can tell us what happened that night." Ashley reasoned.
"Okay... uh... let me think..." chris started. "Beth... we miss you... and we wanna know what happened... can you tell us?"
"B...E...T...R- I don't like this-"
"Uh-oh... betrayed..." Ash finished.
"What does she mean?" Sam asked.
"Wait, it's still going... K...I...L...L...E...D- NO!" Chris yelled.
"Killed..."
"We didn't kill them! It was just a prank!" He cried, sitting on the verge of a breakdown.
Ashley put her free hand on his shoulder to try to calm him down. "Chris, it's okay, w-we just need to know more-"
"I'm sorry! I'm so sorry!" He wailed.
"Guys, w-what do they mean?" Sam asked.
"We've gotta ask, it's the only way to know." Ashley turned to look at Chris again. "Go ahead."
"O-Okay... Who killed you?" He asked slowly. "Beth, who was it? L...I...B-"
"The library, maybe there's something there?" Ashley interrupted.
"P...R..O-"
"Proof! There's proof!"
"In the librar- GAH!"
The whole group jumped back as the pointer flew onto the floor out of nowhere.
"Oh my god..." Chris mumbled as he stood up. "Ash?"
"You know what? This is bullshit..." Sam said coldly as she also got up. "This isn't real."
"Sam, I don't know what's going on-"
"Listen... I don't know if you think that screwing with me like this is gonna help me get over them or whatever, but this is fucked up!" She snapped.
"Sam no! You're the one who wanted to use the board in the first place!" Chris pointed out.
"Sam, c'mon, it's not Chris's fault-" Ashley tried to defend him.
"I don't need this right now, Okay?! You guys are full of it!" Sam yelled as she stormed off.
Chris sighed. "Should we follow her?" He asked.
Ashley shook her head. "We've just gotta let her cool off... she's obviously not as over this as she said..."
"I don't blame her for being freaked out, that was crazy! The pointer just threw itself across the room!" Chris exclaimed.
"Well, if you were faking it, that was impressive-"
"C'mon Ash, why would I fake that?" He asked. "I think we should check the library like it said..."
