I lie on my back,
eyes closed and mouth ajar.
I concentrate on my breathing:
a quiet inhale through my nose,
and a completely exhale through my mouth.
My eyes begin to feel heavy,
like weights.
Yet I don't allow them to close.
I'm fighting against gravity,
and against the sleep my body demands.
My bed feels like clouds,
soft and light.
I feel like I'm in quicksand,
slowly sinking deeper into the mattress.
My body feels heavy.
I'm drowning,
I can't breathe.
Everything goes black.
I feel numb,
motionless.
