OLIVIA

In the daylight, the clubhouse is almost dead.

There are no Serpents greeting me at the way to the bar, no one to stop for a talk. The only person I see awake is Lena and even she's busy with cooking. I spot Vixen though somewhere between the hallways, but I'm in too much to hurry to give her another tilt of my head.

Turning around, I'm almost at the bar when suddenly a hand snatches my arms. I've already raised my fist to hit whoever it is when I come face to face with Lethal. He watches my raised fist for a second before his gaze meets mine.

"You and I need to talk. Now."

Now?

My throat feels dry. Right now I need to talk to Scar. Ask him what's important. Then go back to Fraser. Tell him I'm leaving. But then again-

A sigh leaves my lips. "Fine. Let's talk."

"To my office."

I follow him to his office with a furrowed brow. Today he is paranoid for some reason. If I look too closely to his clenched fist I might even mistake that as anxiety. But why? I don't have to wonder for long. He reveals that in a minute though. And no matter how much I try to hide, it still stings just as bad.

"Your boss called." Lethal exhales loudly. "He told me the fucker had something interesting to spill, to say the least."

"Oh?" Whatever he said must not be good. "What did he say?"

His hazel eyes flash in irritation. "The fucker knew everything that happened in the clubhouse. Not only that, he mentioned something about a plan already taking over. Now I would know if there's a mole in my club, so it must be someone outside helping the fucker."

Am I surprised? Pissed? I'm too dizzy to think.

"What's the plan? Has anybody tried to reach him?" I ask Lethal even if all I want to do is curl and take a nap in the bed.

"Don't know." He snaps. though in a minute he's looking away. He's fucking all over the place. "Just know that your boss said to pass you the news that you need to pick up the fucker right now."

I want to argue. Maybe even scream. But I know that wouldn't matter. So I ask him the next question. "And when am I leaving the Serpents club?"

For the love of God, I don't understand why he looks at me shocked as if...as if he didn't expect me to leave. Was it possible that I can still stay? The thought is laughable. No matter where I am, I follow the law. I'm in the law.  Where these people break them every day.

Would it be too hard to pretend that these people meant nothing to me?

"You want to go back." He grunts. "Are you sure?"

"Wasn't that the contact about in the first place?" I counter. But my words are delivered into a pathetic whisper.

Liar. Always a goddamn liar.

He stares at me for a second. Then he shakes his head as if disappointed. "Fine. I will give you a fucking standing ovation for being a fool. You can leave now."

What?

My voice comes up as sharp. "What the fuck that even means?"

His eyes are like storms as he growls back at me. "I let you go and my brother will be the one to suffer. I'm fucking tired of that shit. You cops won't even be fucking care about that now, will you?"
