"I know it's no secret that in this sub-reddit, the most popular ship outside of Kamijirou and Todomomo is IzuOcha or as I like to call the ship, DekUravity/DekUraraka. It's one of those mainstream ships that many fans predict is going to happen. Thus, some have dubbed it to be "cliche" and "boring" since the conventional "boy meets first girl" trope has been done to death many times before in shonen series. However, if anyone has read My Hero Academia, you would know that the series is full of cliches, but it's executed in a manner that makes it entertaining, and I feel like this ship is no different.

The basis of the IzuOcha ship at its fundamental level is the strong friendship between Midoriya and Uraraka due to their experiences together. These 2 met coincidentally as Midoriya was about to face-plant onto the concrete when Uraraka saved him via her gravity powers. After their brief exchange, Midoriya excitedly thinks how he talked to a girl (when he really didn't). This little moment, while cute and funny, actually shows how little Midoriya has been able to socialize with other girls prior to meeting Uraraka, so she's his first up-close and personal interaction with another female. During the exam, when Uraraka was about to be crushed, he thought back to the moment she saved him and went out of his way to save her life even though he could fail the exam. When she saw that Midoriya was gonna die free-falling, she went to go save him despite being incredibly nauseous. The fact that he went out of his way to save her inspired Uraraka to try and give some of her points to Midoriya because she overheard him trying to get more points and felt guilty she robbed him of the opportunity. After both of them got accepted into UA, their friendship is already established and feels so natural that it doesn't need an explanation.

Next thing is regarding Midoriya's nickname "Deku," which everyone in the general My Hero Academia sub-reddits are ok with saying all because of Uraraka. As you all know, 'Deku' was a nickname that Bakugo translated to "useless," a word to belittle Midoriya. However, Uraraka translated the word to mean "you can do it" or "never giving up" (don't know the exact translation). Midoriya later reciprocates her statement when he tells Bakugo during the Battle Training exercise that his nickname didn't mean what he told him, but what Uraraka said to him, which she was surprised hearing. Not only did Midoriya take Uraraka's words to heart, he later used it as his hero name, which greatly pleased her and spited Bakugo lol.. Once again, this not only expands Midoriya and Uraraka's friendship, it also makes it more personal and intimate.
