Dream/Flashback

"Elizabeth, please understand this is for the better" a woman dressed in white was standing in front of me, face empty of any kind of emotion. I couldn't move, it was like I was completely frozen by her gaze.
*buzz*
"Where is my brother?" my voice was weak, barely a whisper.
"Do not mumble Elizabeth, it's improper. We expect great things from you, at such a young age and yet so smart."
"That's not my name..." I said looking up, straight into her eyes.
*buzz*
"O-of course it is" she said clearing her throat. She seemed to be a bit uneasy.
"No it's not..." I said looking down again.
The woman took a step forward, raising her hand to touch my face. "Of course it is"
I took a step backwards "No it's not! Where is my brother!?"
*buzz*
"You don't have a brother. You are alone, you mother didn't want you, no one is going to protect you. You are a weak little girl with no choice but to listen and do what you are told" with every word she was taking a step forward until I was pushed against the wall "So, Elizabeth, you will be a good girl or you are going to regret ever opening that pretty mouth of yours, understood?" she said placing her well-manicured hand on my cheek and making me look at her.
*buzz*
"My name is Luna" I said looking her straight in the eyes.
*buzz*
"Alright I've had enough" she said standing up and straightening her clothes "Take her! He can do whatever he wants, I can't deal with this anymore"
Two men came into the room taking me in their hands and dragging me out of the room.
*buzz*
"My name is Luna! I have a brother, his name is Stephen! My mom loved me! You are monsters! But you won't succeed! And you know why? Because I REMEMBER and you can't make me forget! You can't..."

"Go on talk to each-other"
I was sitting on a clean metal table. On the other end there was a boy who seemed to be around my age looking at me with big, curious eyes... and a grin on his face...
"Hi, I'm Thomas!" he said extending his hand towards me to shake. I only looked at it. With an awkward cough he let it fall again by his side, but that didn't seem to wipe the grin of his face.
"I haven't met anyone before you! I thought I might be the only one here" he tried talking to me again. A couple of seconds passed in silence and finally the cheery, awkward boy in front of me looked down at his lap with a frown.
*buzz*
"There are lots of other kids here..." I finally opened my mouth to speak in a low voice.
"Well I'm glad I finally met someone!" He said smiling once more "How about we try that handshake again?" He said once again extending his arm over the table.
"Why?" I mumbled, but still took his hand, not really in a handshake, but more like in a 'don't go' kind of grab.
"I don't know it's what grown ups do." He said not letting go of my hand.
"Well it's stupid."
*buzz*
"Yeah I guess you are right... As I said, I'm Thomas"
"Luna"
"Nice to meet you Luna" he said smiling at me.
*buzz*
"Yeah" I mumbled. All the while our hands intertwined on top of the table...

"Hey, Luna?"
Thomas and I were laying on a bed, his feet on top of mine.
"Yeah?" I turned my head to the right to look at him.
"Do you ever get this feeling like you've forgotten something... I don't know, important?" He said looking at me.
"No" I said with an air of certainty, averting my gaze and looking at the ceiling.
"Oh come on!" He whined sitting up. "Never?"
"Nope" I said
"Not even once?" He insisted putting his face in front of mine.
"Not even once. And you know why?" I asked the air in the room turning serious. He just looked at me.
"Because I promised I wouldn't"
"To who?" He whispered looking at me. I didn't say anything.
"Luna, who did you promise to? Luna, please! I feel like-like I forgot something-someone important. P-please!"
His voice cracked.
*buzz*
"Don't worry Tommy they are fine...Don't worry about them it's okay..." I said pulling him in a hug.
And then I just held him while he cried, that loveable, curious boy, breaking in front of me...

"This is not right" Thomas was talking to a woman. They seemed to be arguing yet she remained with a calm facade.
"We are following protocol Thomas. It is her fault to begin with." She said indifferently.
"If you let that happen it's going to break her. Luna *buzz* will never forgive herself." He said creaky shaken up.
I felt a buzzing in my brain...
"Look, Thomas this is not how we wanted things to go, but Luna *buzz* made her decision, a very stupid decision, but a decision nonetheless. You know we can't intervene, it will jeopardise the whole experiment" she said somewhat apologetically "The only thing we can do is wai-"
"NO! I DON'T WANT TO WAIT!" Thomas interrupted her "This is Luna we are talking about! *buzz* We need to do something! It's going to be terrible and she is just sleeping- wait- she is sleeping!" He exclaimed with a change of emotions now looking around the room excitedly. "Luna! *buzz* Luna! *buzz* You need to wake up! Luna *buzz* please wake up, you need to WAKE UP! LUNA! *buzz* *buzz* *buzz*
"Thomas, stop this instant!" The woman seemed upset but Thomas was pretty set on doing whatever he was doing.
Suddenly he made eye contact with me or well dream me, I didn't know what was going on at this point.
His gaze softened "Come on Lu *buzz* *buzz* wake up and show them what kind of girl they're dealing with."

End of Dream/Flashback

I shot up in my bed, hair sticking to my forehead, hands clenching the covers. The sun outside the window seemed to be at a lower angle then before, like it was setting behind the tall walls of the Glade. I could faintly hear the sound of voices, shouting from outside. I got out of bed and run down the stairs of the old house, darting out.
Near the walls of the maze there was a big crowd of boys. Some where shouting, like they were complaining, but I couldn't really understand what they were saying because they were talking all at once. Once I made it to the crowd I started pushing myself through the boys reaching the front. I will never forget what I saw that day, it was just the first of many violent scenes that would play in front of me, because of me. Alex was on his knees, his clothes filthy and his face even filthier, a collar around his neck. Attached to it there were poles and those were held by some of the Gladers.
Alby was in front of him holding a paper and said with an air of formality:
"Alex of the cooks, the gathering decided the punishment for your crimes. You are here by now banished from the Glade and into the maze. The food and water we give to you are our last act of kindness towards you. If you survive the night you may return." Then the doors to the maze started closing. "Keepers your poles" Alby shouted taking his as well.
At that moment Alex's head shot up and he started looking around like crazy while being forced to stand and start moving towards the closing doors "You can't do this to me! I've been here as long as you have and you are going to banish me just to protect that stupid girl!? And what for, because she batted her lashes at you?!" He shouted looking around the crowd, until his eyes fell on me "Oh look she's here for the show! She's going to destroy you, all of you! She wanted this, she wanted me dead! YOU ARE MURDERING ME! MY BLOOD IS IN YOU HANDS!" He shouted at me.
At that Newt looked at me "We told you to stay in your room Grennie" he said straining to keep the tied up boy away.
"What are you doing?" I asked looking at him "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! Stop it! STOP IT!! PLEASE! Please... stop it"
I didn't understand when I moved, or when I started crying but silence fell when I was standing in front of Alby my hands opened like a barrier between the closing doors and the boys.
"Please, please stop, this is not right... You are-you are going to kill him..." I said practically sobbing now.
"We are going to banish him Greenie" Alby said looking me straight in the eyes.
"No. You are going to kill him."  "Greenie..."
"DON'T LIE TO ME!"
"We are doing this for you! To make you feel safe!" Newt said clearly angry.
"Then he is right... Don't make me a murderer... Please... just think of something else, anything else... Banish me! Just don't make me a murderer..." I said looking down.
With that I heard the doors behind me close with a deafening bang and I saw Alex falling on his knees silent tears streaming down his face. There was silence in the glade, the sun barely visible over the walls.
"Take him to the slammer" Alby said pointing a tired finger towards Alex "And you... I swear to God one finger out of line again and I am going to feed you the Grievers myself" he said turning to me "Understood?"
"Yeah..." I said voice stronger than I expected
"Alright! Clear out!"
The boys started heading back to the homestead, some looking at me like I was crazy others with a nod of respect.
"Newt..." I said reaching towards the accented boy.
"Go to bed Greenie..." he said not sparing me a glance and leaving me alone in the now empty glade.
I looked up to the sky "I hope you're proud... whoever you are..." I said thinking of that boy, Thomas...
"Great, now I'm talking to myself..." I sighed running a hand through my hair and making my way towards my room.

Somewhere Not Too Far Away From The Glade
"I sure am Lu, I sure am..." a boy sighed
"Thomas they need you in the meeting room!"
"Coming!" And with one last stolen glance at the computer screen and a grin Thomas left the white room to face his responsibilities and make her proud...
