An epistolary book about characters who feel like real people. The story is character-driven and the author does a fantastic job of building a world through letters.
Through the letters, I got a sense of place and characteristics that enhance the story. Alice does a great job of weaving narration and details into letters without making them sound over the top or boring.
And the voices are so captivating, lively, emotive, and believable that I couldn't help but get lost in the story. Between the playful banter and moments of cynicism and solemnity is a story about two people who are more than their labels. Well-balance and nicely paced comes a story that can be summed up in her bio, it focuses more "on the characters and their musings than on a snappy plot" .
