CHAPTER 2 *Unedited

II

Violet Johnson

The bright morning light filtered through the bare window indicating the start of a fresh, new day. My eyes sought out my phone, which lay beneath my double-stacked pillows.

7.50am

Shit.

I threw away the thick plain cream duvet and scrambled out of the warmth of the bed. The cold air hit me head on as I shoved on a loose knitted cardigan to trap in the body heat.

"Isabel," I shouted as I stumbled through the cardboard boxes scattered oddly around the room.

"Isabel," I chanted as I swung the door open and slammed the door to the right of my bedroom open.

Her features were so similar to mind. The same smoldering hazel brown eyes and thin nose, full lips and high cheekbones, just like the average girl. But unlike my thick brown wavy hair her head adorned straight jet-black hair.

I shook her roughly as she mumbled a curse under her breath and begged for a couple more minutes of sleep.

"Your late Isabel and you've missed the damn school bus. It's your first day Isabel," I shouted as her eyes snapped open and she bounced out of the bed running for the bathroom.

"10 minutes. If you're a second late and trust me a second late you can forget the ride and jog to school." I screamed as I shoved on some sandals.

I stared at the full-length mirror attached on the bathroom door. I looked so mismatched and uneven. Black pajama shorts with pink hearts scattered upon and a cream singlet with the maroon knitted cardigan with a few gaping holes in the arms.

I sighed as I tied my thick hair in a ponytail and grasped the keys to black Audi, which belonged to someone I own so much to me.

"Isabel," I screamed in warning and ran out the door settling into the car and starting the engine.

Minutes later Isabel scrambled out the door locking up the house with an apple grasped between her teeth.

She buckled into the leather seat and double-checked her denim shoulder bag. The ride was silent with her fingers constantly tapping on the dashboard displaying her nerves.

"This is so typical you know. New girl, first day of school shit seriously I've seen this plot so many times on so many damn movies and books." She laughed nervously.

I grumbled under my breath ignoring her words.

"I really hope I find a fit good looking guy," She smirked.

"Isabel, study focus on your studies ok,"

After much nagging and chanting she silence as we drove into the school. It was deep old red brick building with several sports fields.

"Ok listen up, good luck and please come home on time." I softly spoke as she wrapped me in a quick hug and skipped out of the car bouncing to the school doors.

I sat back and shut my eyes.

I drove back to the familiar trail, the same one I nervously drove through only yesterday. Every vein and organ in my body urged me to return but I just wanted to share my mind with my father.

Silly I know. How pathetic must it look when a girl cries and talks to a gravestone. But I felt closer to him, closer than ever. I felt as if he heard my every word and silently responded.

I just needed someone to listen to my troubles.

My heart thudded as I parked much closer to the opening of the dirt trail. Unlike yesterday the small uneven parking spot with shaded parking bays was full and screamed life.

I slowly tugged my seatbelt off and escaped the car. My eyes continued to scan the parking lot looking for a set of icy blue eyes. But nothing came to view.

Breath. There's people here, sensible murderers don't kill in front of witnesses.

I slowly followed the path avoiding the pits of mud from the intense shower of rain late last night.

My eyes caught his gravestone first and my heart once again swelled up and felt heavy with grief and sorrow.

I felt a shiver crawl upon my body and my eyes snapped up the same icy blue eyes that had shot through me.

He wasn't alone with him were a few more people scattered around a grave, where a girl sat in front of the grave crying aloud. The grave had an expensive marble head with scripted carvings.

The girl the wept aloud had black coils of hair and plain brown eyes, but my eyes seemed to force themselves back to the eyes that continued to dig into me.

The same man who had chased me away last night.

He stood alone next to another a man, similar to height and build. His hair was short and a lush blonde and his eyes were plain brown. They were gorgeous and inhuman compared to my scruffy disorganized state.

The blonde's eyes shone with sorrow as he stared at the grave.

I backed away as the deep glare returned to the emotionless set of sky blue eyes.

Does this man hate me, or have I done something?

I slowly backed away and turned from the grave wanting to run away from his intense eyes. His look brought a sense of discomfort and fear to course through me.

He spelled trouble and I could sense this a mile away.

I slowly tugged back to the car and fished out the cool metal key from the pocket of the knitted cardigan. My eyes scanned through the pocket cursing as I saw the gaping hole.

Shit the key fell.

I turned and ran into someone, but felt his arms suddenly reach out and grip my arms.

Shit please, don't be him.

I couldn't face that icy glare or cold shooting daggers anymore.

I forced my eyes open and stared at a set of forest green orbs with specks of gold. My breath haltered at the crazy color of his eyes, so unique and captivating. His jaw was sharp, his nose straight and a slight stubble adorned his tight jaw.

"I..." The sorry caught up in my throat as I took in his height; he was two full heads taller than me and muscular.

I shook my head internally disgusted at my thoughts. It's a sin to have such thoughts about any man.

He slowly let me go and shot me a sad smile.

"Sorry you... you dropped your keys," He held up the piece of metal which lead to my prized possession.

I nodded dumbly and took the key from him. His fingers brushed against mine and a warm smile spread upon his face.

"Thanks..." I whispered as I moved back creating more distance between us.

"It's ok," He said.

"Uhm... I'm Jai," He said nervously as he ran a hand through his pitch-black hair.

"I'm Violet," I said softly.

"uh... thanks but I should be going," I said and moved away shooting him another look of thanks and strode towards my car, buckling in and driving back onto the trail.

This graveyard seemed to scream trouble.
