The tear drop stained the concrete path, as I had my back rested up against a seat. My knees brought up to my chin, the almost empty bottle of liquor was beside me. My whole world was coming to an end. Everything was self-destructing, and I wasn't helping the situation. My heart wasn't taking much more, I didn't think I could last much longer.
Rejection was swirling around my mind.
I couldn't be a part of this non-existent relationship and still be happy. Everything was falling a part and I couldn't take it anymore. I had to get out, I had to be free. I brought the last of my liquid courage to my lips when I heard movement coming down the pathway. I downed the last of it, placing the bottle to my side and looked up at the incoming person.
"Alpha Gerard..." I bowed my head slightly, then turned to focus it on the gravestones before me.
"I thought you'd be at the bar, drowning your sorrows. But I see visiting the dead will help with that." He chuckles to himself.
"I didn't have any cash on me..." I admit. "I just have my phone and this now empty bottle of liquor."
"I doubt that would have truly stopped you." He takes a seat beside me. "I know how you feel..."
I turned to him and scoffed. "You fucking don't know how I feel, because you're not human, sir. If you truly knew how I felt every fucking minute when your sons fucked another girl... Or even when they came into the bakery today and Barrett had a go at me, calling me all sorts of things. You don't understand what its like to be a human in a werewolf world..."
He looked at me, something about his eyes said it all. I closed my eyes. "I'm sorry... the alcohol is making me braver than I am. But you have no idea how much pain I've felt these past weeks being here. You have no idea what I've unfortunately seen and heard or even the fact that the word rejection pops into my head nearly ten times a day."
Alpha Gerard sighs. "Sadly, I have a mate whom I have loved since the moment she took charge in the hospital ward and saved my life. I'm not saying this is life or death situation, but I'm saying that yes I don't understand how you feel. I shouldn't have said that when I entered and for that I'm sorry."
"It means more coming from my mates but thank you." I give him a weak smile and look up at the moon. "I need it more from Barrett because he's been the one that has hurt me more than Leon. He has tried to make some small effort, but Barrett always has the worst timing."
"I've noticed a change in Leon. It was something I never thought would happen, he actually grew up and matured more the moment you entered the house and started staying here. More so, the moment you moved out of their bedroom. You took a stand and he heard you. Barrett, however, well he hasn't changed."
I sighed. "Leon's been sweet. Barrett hasn't changed in his hormonal ways. It's just hard to fall for someone after being in love with someone else for so long. But now..." I turn to look at Alpha Gerard. "I can't even think of doing anything or loving someone that has found their mate. I get the whole thing, I respect that and I'd never go after someone that has a mate. I couldn't say that about Rubi, but I wouldn't do that... Even when it hurts so much..."
A few more tears dropped and rolled down my cheeks.
"I noticed that Conri and Natasha were having their own moment on the front porch." Alpha Gerard stroked his chin. "I'm sorry that it had to happen on your birthday, but you should be happy that your two closest friends found each other."
"Don't get me wrong, I'm happy. I would have congratulated them better if it wasn't the worst timing. I think I owe them an apology for taking some of my anger out on them." I stood up, wobbled a little more than I should have. "But right now, I'm heading to the bakery to sleep. I can't sleep in that house tonight and I can't stay with Natasha because I have no clue what her and Conri would get up too."
