Happy Birthday Lexie!

The moment Lexie woke up late, after her alarm failed to wake her, she knew it was going to be on of those days. What usually took her fifteen minutes to get to work to her almost half an hour, stressing her out even more. Before she could even sit down her boss stormed up to her and began yelling at her for something she hadn’t even done before adding even more work to her already ridiculous load. After eventually calming herself down enough to grab a coffee from the break room, some jerk walked into her causing the hot, brown liquid to spill down her new white blouse, staining it immediately. And the crappy cherry on top of the shit cake that was her birthday… it began pissing it down as she walked home, thanks to there being no taxis.

Lexie slammed the front door shut after entering, as if the little outlet of rage would calm her down but it didn’t. She sighed deeply, closing her eyes as she rested her wet forehead against the wood of the door. She didn’t want to fill the house with bad vibes, she hated bringing her work troubles home with her, it wasn’t far on Tom. Oh, Tom, her loving and caring boyfriend of four years.

The thought of him brought a small smile to her face before sadness hit her heart. God, she missed him. He was off being the amazing actor that he was whilst she was having the crappiest day of her career and the worst birthday ever. None of it would matter if she could just spend an hour with the man she loved, laughing at one of his terrible jokes whilst eating take-out; he always made everything better for her.

Her phone pinged from inside her jacket pocket (that was soaking) notifying her of a text message. With one last deep sigh she pulled her phone out, smiling as she looked at Tom’s name lighting up the screen.

Tom: You’re getting water all over the floor! Xxx

Lexie couldn’t stop the gasp that left her mouth as she spun round to face Tom. He wore a sad smile as he held a towel for you. “Rough day, love?” he asked as he slowly stepped forwards, holding the towel out to you.

Trying not to cry, Lexie nodded. “Better now.” she smiled, taking the towel from Tom. He let out a soft chuckle as he reached out and helped her pull her wet jacket off, hanging it up on the coat rack.

Tom pulled her into hugged, smiling into the crook of her neck as he did. “I missed you.” he whispered running his hand over her blonde hair as he pulled her closer to him.

Lexie grinned as she breathed in Tom’s scent, the familiar smell filling her with warmth and love. It was home, something she had missed around their shared home. Their shared bed especially. “I missed you, too.” she whispered. After a few minutes of just holding each other, the pair pulled back just enough to press their lips together in a soft, loving kiss. Lexie smiled into the kiss as she pulled Tom closer to her. “I didn’t think I’d get to see you today?” she asked once they had let go of each other.

“You really thought I’d miss your birthday, sweetheart?” Tom asked as he took Lexie’s hand in his. Lexie nodded, biting her lip as she looked down to the hardwood floors. Tom let out a soft chuckle as he began leading her through to house that was dimly lit, candles appearing the further they walked. “I thought you’d know me by now, love.” he sent Lexie a wink making her blush a little.

Lexie’s hand flew to cover her mouth as tears once again filled her eyes as she saw what Tom had done for her. The room was dimly lit, covered in candles and rose petals and the dining table was set for a romantic dinner for two. “Oh, Tom, I love it.” Lexie spun round, wrapping her arms around Tom’s neck almost knocking him over.
