Hello? can you hear me?” A muffled voice sounded from outside the darkness that surrounded me. “Hey I know your alive, dont try to play dead with me you bum!” A sharp pain hit my butt. I jolted up in a frenzy almost falling over again. “Your dead to me mother!” I blurted. “What the hell are you talking about I'm not your mother! Now get out of my barn you idiot before I stab you with this pitch fork!” My senses flooded back to me as I remembered the night before. “Oh…” A girl stood in front of me that looked about 17. She had fierce brown eyes. I look down at my clothes as I say they were covered in black ash and mud from the night before. “Oh what!? Now get out before I kill you!” Look miss this is a misunderstanding, I just took shelter from the storm last night nothing more. I'm not a petty thief I assure you.” She sneered. “Haha fat chance I'm believing you. We've already had your kind come by last month trying to steal from us. I should get the law to come lock you up!” crap, I thought looks like she's not changing her mind. I got to find a way out of this. With the most charming voice I could muster I spoke. “What's you name miss?” She stepped back the pitchfork still raised. “Why should I tell a thief like you!” “I told you I'm not a thie-” “SHUT UP I'm not listening to you!” “alright alright” I stepped back and bowed. “my name is John Whitaker, pleased to meet you.” “I'm not listening to your lies! stay in the barn until the law comes.” The girl glared deep into my soul as she walked back and locked the barn. A thudding click sounded my inevitable doom. I began to panic as I looked around the dark barn for a sign of any opening. The barn windows were all but shut and locked from the outside. The only source of light was through the cracks in the walls and a small window up near the top of a loft. I strained my eyes in the darkness  until my eyes fell on a dilapidated wooden ladder. I took it from the wall as dust flew into my face. It wasn't in the best condition as it was missing a few rungs But it would do. I grasped the wood in both hands as I lifted, it was heavier than I thought it would be. I laid the top ring on the loft and began to climb. I knew I didn't have long before she would come back with guardsmen. The small loft was filled with bags of grain and rusty tools. Upon closer inspection of the triangular window I realized it was an hatch door A single rusty bolt held the panes together. I kicked the door with my soggy boots as it budged slightly. I saw a iron shovel in the corner of my eye. I picked it up and began to hack at the weak bolt it finally snapped in half as the doors swung wide open. The glaring light revealed to me it was noon. I slept almost the whole day! I thought. I climbed through the hatch onto the barn roof. I made my way across the wood roof quietly as possible. The young girl saw me as her face twisted into surprise then rage. “You bastard get down from there!” I tried to get out of sight as she yelled. “Father he's on the roof! The bastard thief is trying to escape. I began to reply but I thought it would be no use. There was no trying to get out of this. I quickened my pace on the roof. As my wet shoes slipped. I landed with a thud as I began to slid off. Panicked rises in me as I tried to hold on in vain. Before I knew it I was tumbling off the edge. This is it I thought, I'm finally going to die. I cant split my soul again. To think I would die by my own clumsiness. I landed with a soft thud. Moist hay flew around me as it went in my mouth. “ackk!” I spit the gross hay out. When I finally looked up I saw a kindly old man looking up at me. His warm eyes gave off a friendly vibe. He seemed to be about sixty. With a fine trimmed grey beard with white setting in. “Looks like you got yourself in a predicament, your not hurt are you?” I was taken aback by his kind remarks. “Uhh I don't think so.” He went around and grabbed me from behind. “I hope you dont mind but i need to take a look at your injuries first. You could have a broken leg.” I stammered as I tried to break free. “No really I'm fine. Sir your too kind. I surely dont want to burden you and your…” The old man replied. “My grandaughter, she doesn't like strangers very much sometimes she gets a little carried away.”  “I HEARD THAT!” “Oh Elizabeth I didnt know you were still here.” “Grandfather why are you bringing in that miserable welp! He tried to steal from us!” “Well I dont think he was what thief doesn't carry around a weapon. Not to mention decent clothes.” I looked down at my body and realized my shirt was torn to shreds. Looks like it got caught from the nasty fall a huge gash across my stomach. As I was carried inside the smell of lavendar and rosemary rose around me. Not what I was expecting from a peasant farmer. The small rooms connected into one giant room in the center. I was laid on a small bed as the old man inspected my wounds. He furrowed his brow as he sat on a stool. For a few moments is was eerily quiet. Not even the girl was complaining anymore. “Well good news, the wound isn't deep so I guess you won't lose your stomach just yet.” the man let out a wheezy laugh that turned into a nasty cough. The girl came into the room as she grew annoyed. “Grandfather I told you not to work so hard carrying him inside was a bad idea!” she seem to have a hint of worry in her voice so this must have not just been a harmless cough. “I'm fine Elizabeth it's the dusty air in here that all.” just after he spoke the coughing grew louder. The young girl helped him out of the room as he hobbled away to his bed. It was the perfect time to escape, I could see the entrance from here. Just a quick dash would let me be free. I winced in pain as the wound reminded me of my bedridden state. Despite how exhausted I was from the previous skirmish. I could bare to sleep, The screams of pain and horror plagued me. Most of all I couldn't forget the eyes of that nobleman. Pure cruelty and malice set behind elegant green eyes. I wonder where they are right now. It's a miracle they haven't found me yet. The door creaked open as Elizabeth stepped in. A quick glare told me not to try anything. She locked the door behind her as I heard a thud of metal. Standing there I thought she would say something but all I heard was the beating of my heart. “Umm so is your Grandfather ok?” Hestiation was in the air. “Yes he’s fine just hasn't been feeling well lately.” “That's good if it wasn't for him I probably would have a pitch fork in my ass by now.” She rolled her eyes as she turned to leave “You disgust me.” She stopped as she turned towards me. “Oh and one more thing. You try to run away I'll personally hunt you down and kill you. Your still not off the hook from trying to steal from us.” “How many more times do I have to say it I did not steal from you. There was a storm and I had to go somewhere.” I winced in pain as I turned on my side. “and that just happened to be your barn.” she eyed me suspiciously “Sure whatever, but you still can’t walk away with that wound.” she shut the door behind her and left. Her footsteps growing increasingly quieter. Damn I thought, if I stay here any longer no doubt they'll find me. I don’t even know where I'm at. Ever since I left the road I've had no sense of direction. Maybe I should ask the old man  where I'm at when he feels better, No doubt he can help me. Once I get to Caern I can find the necromancy brotherhood. Hide there for a while, and keep pursuing my goals. I was so close to perfecting the summoning ritual. If I stayed in Hadensburg for a few more days I would've succeeded I just knew. The pain in my side was throbbing but it felt much better since it was treated. I managed to stand on both feet I wobbled over to the door and out of the room. Time to find some real answers, I'm done playing these games. If these people wouldn't give me the information I needed. They would die.
