"morning lily." i say to one of my favourite housekeepers.
she smiles at me. "morning caerus. how are we feeling today?"
i beam at her. "we are feeling spectacular. know what's on the menu today?" i ask.
"i believe matt has made waffles and eggs."
"great! join me?"
she smiles again. "thank you but i've already eaten. maybe next time."
i roll my eyes jokingly because that's what she says every time.
"alright. can you also remind me to go buy xavier a birthday present later today?"
she nods. "what are you thinking of getting the boy?"
i sigh and shrug. "i don't know. something he can wear and show his dad."
she smiles sympathetically. "i'm sure you'l find something perfect."
i nod. "will you come shopping with me?"
"what about geneveive?"
"it's her little brother's birthday and they're going to hawaii for the day."
she nods. "i see. did you want to go into town?"
i shrug. "i don't know. we'll see what mood i'm in after breakfast."
"well, you let me know."
i nod and thank her as i head downstairs. i say hi to victor, our landscaper when i pass the glass hallway, i salute terrence standing by the front door and he rolls his eyes jokingly, i high five ingrid, one of the other house keepers, on my way through the living room, and then finally i light up when i find matt in the kitchen.
"morning care bear." he tosses me an orange as i sit up on one of the high counter stools.
"morning matty. let me guess, waffles and eggs?"
his eyes widen and he laughs. "i never know how you do it." and then he slides me a plate of exactly what lily told me.
happily, i dig into my meal prepared fresh by only the best chef in the world.
"it's a secret." i say with a mouthful.
he smiles. "plans for today?"
"lily and i are going shopping."
"looking for anything in particular?"
i shrug. "birthday present for xavier."
he rolls his eyes humerously and i laugh. "oh yeah? that loser still ages?"
the whole house team is on my side; xavier is an asshole.
"he's a decent guy sometimes."
"i'll bet. i'm telling you, just be patient and someone perfect for you will come along."
i smile and peel the orange. too bad patience isn't the issue with my shitty love life. or rather, lack thereof.
"speaking of coming along," matt turns and opens the forbidden cabinet, that even his 6'4 height needs a step ladder to reach, with the key on his chain.
i shovel the rest of my waffle into my mouth before hopping off the stool to run a cup of water. matt returns with my weekly pill box and pops open the sunday compartment.
a blue prozac sits alongside a red skittle.
i smile at that and swallow the pill before chewing on the skittle. matt's been dropping little snacks with my pills since i was 14 and he's never let me go a day without.
