Her mother sent her off to Emerald Ranch to live a normal life. She told her daughter to forget about the riches, getting married, and all the sophistication she was taught. Sarah knew that her father built a life of ease and security for her and her mother. But her momma wants her to be a normal young woman not some high and mighty rich girl with every man who was broke or a gambler in Saint Denis lusting after her.
Off she was to Emerald Ranch, to stay with her mother's best friend. And her nerves were jumping sky high along with her heart and hopes.
Standing on the train platform, bag in hand and ticket in the other, she felt very out of place. Being only freshly 20 years of age, she had never been on her own. As I said, she was very pampered. She didn't know what ranch life will have in store for her. Being a southern belle of riches, she was born with a silver spoon in her pretty little mouth.
"Miss! Time to board." A man called to her with a smile.
"Oh dear me! I was day dreaming! Thank you!" She hurried into the train car, with the help of a suited man who also took her ticket. She sat in the very back, so she could get back to her thinking.
As the train started to move forward, she suddenly has a feeling...a eerie feeling something was going to happen. She told herself it was nerves and anxiousness. Not to worry.
She thought about her daddy and her momma, her beautiful momma. She was a farm girl to the roots, beautiful red hair and big blue eyes. It was no wonder a rich man like her daddy took such a liking to her. She had nothing to offer but beauty and personality.. and plenty of it! Oh her momma was a sight, she never held back and she sure didn't stray from her country roots. And that's how she wants her to daughter to be, not some prissy no lifer, having babies and marrying for money or the other way around.
Her daddy was a hard man...not with money or love but with people he don't rightly know. He earned his keep by being so.. But he was handsome, loving, and kind to her and her mother. He did not like the idea of her going to a ranch. He was appalled but whatever made momma happy made him happy. And Sarah was happy with whatever life could bring even if it made her nervous.
The train slams to a stop, throwing Sarah forward. She caught herself on the cushioned seat in front of her.
"What's going on!" Shouted a man who was sitting opposite of her.
"I'm not sure sir, give me one moment." The ticket inspector moved quickly to the other train car ahead of this one but was stopped by a man with a bandana covering the lower half of his face.
"Not so fast, sit down." The robber pushes a pistol into the man's chest, forcing him to sit on the nearest seat. "Now if y'all would be so nice to hand over whatever valuables you have, it would be greatly appreciated."Sarah started to panic, she starts to count to ten as he made his way down the aisle. Each passenger handed over money or jewelry. He seemed satisfied until he got to the man beside her.
"I am not obliged to give you anything of mine or my wife!" The man stood proud.
"Well that is a great shame." He hit the man with the butt if his gun. "Give me what you got or you pay the consequences."
The man, staggers in his seat, cowering as he got his money from his pocket. "Now go, leave us be!" His wife cried, holding onto her husband closely.
Now it was Sarah's turn to pay..but she had no other cash or anything valuable for that matter.
"Now look what we have here! Dutch, we got a beauty who could bring in quite the penny!" The man's beady eyes roam over her. His balding head nodding approvingly.
"Now we don't take women. You know this! Unless they come willingly." A dark headed man, joined the car, laughing.
"Give us what you have and everything will be fine." The man's deep voice rumbled, she trembles in fear.
"I have nothing sir." She looks down, praying this would be quick and painless.
"Get her bags, bring her out!"
The balding man jerks her bag from her lap, grabbing her by the waist and slinging her over his shoulder. "No! No!" She screams, kicking and pounding into his back with her fists.
He laughed at the effort, carrying her with ease out of the car.
He hopped from the train, throwing her bag to the ground along with her. She fell with a grunt, quickly scrambling away.
"Please! I have nothing!" She screams with rage and fear. She stays on the ground, getting to her knees. She glares at the dark haired man as he went through her bag. He took everything out, lingering on her delicates and laughed with the rest of the men like she was some joke.
"Stop! I have nothing, I do not lie to you!" She screams once more, his dark eyes meet hers.
"Leviticus! Take her!" A man with sandy blonde hair and a red bandana around his face approaches, she tries to run knowing she'd either be shot or caught but at least she tried. "Woah! I ain't gonna hurt ya." He grabs her being as gentle as possible, but she fights back which made him sling her over his shoulder once more. She fights him for a moment but there is no point when these men are ruthless thieves, she prays she'll be okay..that's all she has left.
