A BRICK AND LOG HOUSE PULLED INTO VIEW AS MOM PULLED QUINTON'S TRUCK into the gravel driveway. The trailer bumped up behind us as I smiled.

After a three-day trip we had finally arrived. Mom pulled up before stopping as I looked over at Quinton in the front seat. He pulled out his earbuds and smiled. Then I glanced at my adopted sister Petal curled up asleep.

"Start getting the things out. I'm going to go unlock the house." Mom said before she left.

Quinton stepped out as did I before we started to bring the things inside. We started out with the bags of our clothes. We didn't have really any furniture as mom had been saving to buy for this.

She had purchased this brick house which in all our eyes is a huge deal. Mom tended to pick us up and go. Now she had a purchased house that she must pay for unless she decides to change our identities.

Thankfully, she also put aside money for some furniture. I knew we'd be sleeping on air mattresses for the first few nights though.

"It's a four-bedroom house. Quinton your bedroom is on the second floor with mine and Makya, your bedroom is on the first floor along with Petal's. There are three bathrooms. Petal gets the room on the bottom floor with the bathroom. You two will share the bathroom in the hallway." Mom explained.

"Okay mom." Quinton smiled at mom as went upstairs to her room.

I went outside to the truck where Petal was still sleeping. I got in and lightly shook her awake causing her to jump.

"It's just me Petal." I assured her and Petal blinked a few times before nodding.

"We're here." I told her and Petal opened the truck door and got out as she grabbed her black wolf plush stuffed animal and followed me inside. I led her down the hallway and grabbed one of the air mattresses and her bag before leading her to her room.

"Mom said this is your room." I told her opening the door. Petal stepped in as I followed her and set her bag down before going to the corner to set up the air mattress.

Petal walked around the room and went up to the wallpaper. The wallpaper is a light grey color. Petal smiled as she turned back around adjusting her plushie.

I got her air mattress filled out before turning to her. "Your air mattress is all filled up." I told her with a smile.

"Thank you Makya." Petal whispered and I smiled at her. I cherished moments where she talked.

She has such a lovely voice but has selective mutism. Petal didn't talk often especially in social situations. In school she never talked at all. When she did talk it was exceptionally light.

"Of course." I told her with a smile as she went to her bag and began unpacking. She removed her clothes and set them in neat piles before going to her blankets.

"I'll be in my room if you need me." I told her with a smile.

I left her to unpack as I went to my room. I plugged in my air mattress and inflated it. My mom had gone for some fancy ones that have a layer of memory foam on the top. Once it was inflated, I put a comforter over it and then my pillows.

My room is painted a beige color. I finished unpacking before exiting the room and entering the kitchen where mom stood with her phone in hand.

"Tomorrow we are going to the high school to sign you and Petal up." She said and I nodded.

"I'm going pick us up some dinner. Do burgers sound good?" Mom asked and I noded.

"Yeah do you want me to go ask Petal what she wants?" I asked and she nodded. I moved down the hallway and knocked on the door before entering.
