MY FEVER CARRIED ON UNTIL TUESDAY NIGHT WHEN IT BEGAN TO GO DOWN AND I felt more relaxed. Mom was making some homemade chicken soup that night.

Petal was in the kitchen cutting up chicken for her as I sat at the table with a blanket wrapped around me. Quinton was out today with some people from town. That left just mom, Petal, and I in the house.

"Are you feeling better?" Mom asked as she boiled some broth.

"A little bit." I answered pulling the blanket around me. Mom nodded.

"Quinton wants to talk to you after he gets back, it's important." Mom told me and I nodded as I leaned back in the chair to wait for the chicken soup. While I waited, I took out my phone and scrolled through social media before Petal came over with a bowl.

"It's hot so be careful." Petal told me and I nodded. She came back over and sat down next to me with her own bowl of soup. I gave her a small smile.

Mom stayed in the kitchen watching the two of us with a small smile. I ate my soup until the bowl was empty before going for seconds and later thirds. Once I was done, I headed back to my room and retreated under the covers.

Not long after there was a knock at my door, and I looked up. "Come in." I said and Petal walked in.

She smiled at me and waved. "What's up?" I asked.

Petal shrugged as she came in. "I wanted to see how you were doing." Petal murmured standing in the doorway quietly.

"You can come in Petal you don't have to stand there." I told her and Petal nodded as she stepped into the room and closed the door. I moved up and smiled at her. Petal came over and sat down on my bed besides me.

"I'm beginning to feel better, I'm just very hungry honestly." I told with a bit of a laugh.

Petal smiled. "How are you doing?" I asked.

"Fine, I don't feel sick if that's what you're asking. Whatever you have I don't have. I'm good." Petal told me with a small smile on her face.

"Well, I'm sure staying around me might put you at risk though." I told her as I poked her side making Petal jump away from me. She was incredibly ticklish there. Petal glared at me and I gave her a small smile. "Telling the truth." I reminded her.

"I'm sure I'd have caught it by now." Petal responded and I shook my head.

"Are you feeling lonely or something?" I asked and Petal's cheeks turned red.

"Am I not allowed to come see you?" Petal asked giving me a mean look.

"I never said that Petal. But you seem a bit clingy today. Is being by yourself bad?" I asked and Petal pouted.

"It's simply weird being in a room that I'm not used to. We just moved and you already caught something." Petal bit her lip before looking up at me.

"I'm fine Petal, and so are you. This move is good for us. Mom seems serious this time." I told her reaching out and grabbing her hand.

"You said that last time as well." Petal murmured.

I sighed before moving over and hugging her. "Petal I'm serious this time. I'm almost eighteen, things are going to get better, I just have a feeling, you trust me, right?" I asked and Petal looked up and nodded.

"I trust you Mak." Petal murmured and I smiled at her.

"Good because if you didn't you better start calling me by my full name instead of that god awful nickname." I told her and Petal rolled her eyes.
