Last Christmas

"I got the cake", Jin said as he walked to Namjoon who was lying on the bed. "Why did you buy one? We can't eat it anyways", Namjoon replied. Jin chuckled and placed the cake on the table, "You're such a cheapskate. It's christmas", Jin said, holding Namjoon's hands. "Your hands are cold", Jin said, tightening his grip. "Well, soon enough, it'll get colder. It's christmas", Namjoon replied.

Jin frowned at Namjoon. "That wasn't funny", Jin said. Namjoon raised his hand slowly and caressed Jin's face. "Why are you still handsome? It's been more than 50 years since we've started dating but you still look dashing", Namjoon remarked. "I could say the same to you, you're an old man yet girls still flock around you. Do something about your appeal", Jin whined.

Namjoon exhaled heavily as Jin felt his grip loosening. "Jin, I know that I say this everyday, but thank you", Namjoon said. "Thank you for staying by my side and loving me all these years", he added. Jin's eyes teared up, "Idiot, stop making it seem that I am flawless! You also loved me even if I wasn't perfect. You also stayed by my side when my world was crumbling apart. You were the one who saved me", Jin said as tears rolled down his cheeks.

Namjoon felt his old heart ache for Jin.

"I have accepted the fact that my time is near", Namjoon said, feeling his tears roll down as well. "And I have already prepared myself to let you go", Jin said.

"But, right now, I don't want to", the two said in unison as they hugged. Namjoon felt his breath shorten, his pulse slowing down.

Namjoon looked at Jin, "Come on, show me that beautiful smile of yours, the smile that captivated me 50 years ago", he said. Jin, as hard as it was, showed his most beautiful smile yet, one last time, for Namjoon to see before he leaves.

And after seeing his lover's smile, Namjoon slowly closed his eyes and muttered on his last breath, "I love you".
