«2» A new Beginning

"Kaylon, you are by far the greatest thing that has happened to me. I know i may not be the greatest father but i hope you know that i love you," father quivered, trying his best not to cry but hearing his voice break made my heart break into smithereens. Tears spilled onto my cheeks as we embraced one another.

"And shadowhunters say demons aren't capable of emotions," i joked, hoping to lighten the mood. Father chuckled, finally allowing his tears to fall. "Just please promise me that you'll stay safe. I can't lose you. You're the only one i have left," and with those simple words, my heart shattered even more. Just thinking about losing him was excruciating.

I gently pulled away, kissing his forehead, promising nothing because we both knew safety was not a part of being a Greater Demon. With that, i left his house with tears threatening to fall. "Lukas! Lukas where are you? We need to go. Now!" Not far ahead, a dragon flew straight towards me, hoping to scare me but when it realised i wasn't going run off screaming like a little girl, it flew down and transformed.

My smile widened and i embraced Lukas in a tight hug and tackled him to the ground. "Oh c'mon Kaylie, can't you act just a little bit scared." Lukas teased me and I ruffled his glorious blond hair and said, " Not a chance Luke," smiling without a care in the world, i felt like this was all i needed. Time froze and i admired his big goofy smile.

"Okay not to ruin the moment but you're kind of crushing me Kaylie. God how much did you gain?" i tried to act as if i was offended, putting my hands on my chest and throwing my head back. Next thing i knew i was pinned against the ground and a large Lukas crushing me . "Not so fun is it now huh?" He teased and i threw him off of me.

"Okay maybe i did gain a little bit of weight," breaking the tension and doubling back in laughter. Lukas held me and stared at me with so much concern. In all my years, I've never seen Lukas behaving so seriously. "But are you really okay kaylie ?" Brushing his question aside i said, "Okay firstly you have got to stop calling me Kaylie and secondly, my mother just disappeared into ashes Luke. How do you think i feel?"

Luke hugged me tightly and promised the end of all shadowhunters and downworlder. I held his hand bracing ourselves for the excruciating pain of the fire. Our cat eyes glowed but his were a shade of purple. They were absolutely gorgeous and clear which gave him a look of vulnerability but looks are deceiving and he was far from vulnerable.

We began chanting one of the most powerful spells that couldn't be found even in the Book of White and portaled right outside of the Hotel Dumort where we will be disguised as one of them. If you've forgotten i can be any downworlder or shadowhunter but going undercover at the New York Institute was a risky mistake my brother did. Me and Lukas walked up to the front door only to be greeted by two angry-looking guards.

I was getting ready to blast them both but Luke held my hands together, reminding me that i was going undercover as a vampire. "What's the commotion guys?" A friendly vampire came out. He had perfect teeth and brown tousled hair. I was beginning to think he was cute until it dawned on me that he was the stupid daylighter.

Me and Lukas bared our fangs but knew better than to attack him unless we want to be blown into bits. "Hi daylighter we've heard so many things about you. I adore you. You're so cute ." Forcing out those words were the most disgusting thing I've ever done. Knowing that this daylighter was "easy", i simply stole his heart at first glance.
