Recently I've run out of great ideas for my story so I hope you enjoy this one.
“Five more minutes please.” Daniel groaned while his alarm clock wakes every living thing in his apartment. He felt so tired with what happened yesterday though he never moves a lot like a construction worker but still he’s mentally and emotionally exhausted. He opened his eyes just to stare his ringing alarm clock before turning it off and prepares for another unexpected day. Who knows what will happen today. Maybe another insults and degrading stuffs will knock me out this time for real. He keeps on thinking happy thoughts just to forget his very first date like when he graduated college thinking his life would be more adventurous. Just ignore Richard and his opinions. He’s not the reason why you’re here so stop stressing your neurons. He always talks to himself to sort thing outs and this time is not another creepy thing he does in front of the mirror.
Just to completely erase his memory about yesterday’s unexpected event, he treats himself with a slice of delicious strawberry cake and a creamy slice of cheesecake as his breakfast before heading to work. He took the latter to the office saving it for his morning break and ordered a milkshake to-go. And to make his day even brighter, he wears a happy smile as he looks around while walking. I walk here everyday and I’ve never noticed before how beautiful the whole city is. He looks around like a 5-year old boy who’s having his very first city tour. He sometimes stops to stare a building admiring the intricate designs, every curve and every detail. I wonder what people are doing inside. Not all people are into journalism aren’t they? He noticed that the color of the leaves is somewhat less green. Summer is almost over. He was fascinated by the tall building when he didn’t notice he bumped into something hard and dropped the paper bag.
He smiled apologetically and picked up the bag immediately checking if his treat was ok. He let out a sigh seeing that his food is still in one piece. “Sorry about that. I wasn’t….” He looks up to apologize but surprised when he saw a smirking Johnny. He lowers his head feeling guilty with what he’d done last night.
“Is that for me?” Johnny asked curiously.
“No! I mean this is supposed to be my coffee break treat. You can’t have it. It’s my favourite.” He defended like a kid protecting his favourite sweets.
“What is it? Can I see it? Maybe I can buy some tonight?” Johnny asked playfully. “I feel like I’m talking to 5-year old kid.” Johnny chuckled how cute Daniels reaction.
Daniel doesn’t notice he’d been acting like a kid until he realized he’s late for work. “Listen. I’m sorry for what happened last night. I can explain but not right now. I’m late for work. You know you’re brother doesn’t want late people. So…” Daniel explained looking at his watch when his attention was caught by a familiar voice.
“So you better get inside the office.” David ordered as he climbed out of his car. “And you..” he pointed at Johnny. “Why are you messing people’s lives this time of the day? You should be somewhere wandering around with your own kind.” His voice as cold as ice but doesn’t even affect Johnny.
“Is that how you greet your own kind brother? Well, good morning to you too.” Johnny glared at his brother.
“I presumed your “date” with Daniel last night was a memorable one.” His tone is filled with sarcasm. “And that explains why you still after him.”
“That’s none of your business. One day he’ll be mine and you’ll be left shattered because he’ll choose me over you. Keep that in mind.” Johnny’s confidence is overflowing so much he can conquer Mt. Everest anytime soon. “Now go along and do what people like you do everyday. And that’s only make money by utilizing people’s ability.” He waved his hand shooing David.
“As much as I would like to educate you with manners, I don’t have the time to spare. So you better get your ass out here and sit down in a preschool room or go bore someone with your stupidity.” David fixes his tie and walks inside the building without a word.
David stormed inside the office with his usual expression - deadly serious. This time he’s more than pissed after their conversation with Johnny letting out his anger with every employee that get’s on his way. Everyone is watching him as he walks towards his private office. He stops as he opens the door and turn around glaring every person alive. “You are paid to work. So what are you doing? Trying to break the world’s longest staring?” everyone flinched and scrambled from their desk and pretended to be working on something. David slammed the door behind him and lock and the sound startled Daniel as he arranges piles of folders on David’s desk. David fixed his tie before taking a breath to calm himself before talking to Daniel about what really happened yesterday. He seemed to be so intrigued that he barely slept last night thinking what could possibly be the two doing.
“So what happened to your date?” surprisingly David sounded like he doesn’t care but inside his dying to know.
“No-nothing. Just dinner like he promised.” Daniel sounded so sad as memories of what happened last night flashed back like lightning so fast like it was like happening again.
David sensed the emotion of Daniel and he immediately felt guilty confronting him like it doesn’t bother him. Daniel just bowed his head staring at the floor not wanting to say anything or talk about last night.
David hugged him tightly inhaling his vanilla scented shampoo and Daniel relaxed and in response, he hugged back. They stayed in each other’s embraces for like forever because both of them felt relieved and relaxed whenever they’re together.
“We should stop fooling around like this.” Daniel cut the comforting silence and brought them back to reality.
David cupped his face and stare directly into his eyes seeing mixed of emotions –fear, sadness and love. “What do you mean? Please tell me. You can tell me everything.” He kissed Daniel’s forehead to make him feel he can be trusted.
“It’s just that whenever I wanted to be happy, people around me get hurt. Sometimes they thought I’m being selfish for being happy. And the last thing I want for you is to get hurt because of me.” A tear slipped from Daniel’s eye as waves of emotions came in flooding his body.
“Sshhh. There there.” David cooed rubbed the back of Daniel comforting him like any lovers do whenever the other is sad. “It’s ok. I told you to don’t mind them. Your happiness is all that matters to me. I don’t care what other people say. This may sound cliché but as long as we’re together, nothing can come between us.” David wiped the tears from Daniel’s cheeks and kissed his lips softly. The kiss is not lust-filled kiss but it is filled with love.
“I should get back to work.” Daniel inhaled deeply as he walks away from the man whom he love so much that he can barely contain.
“Everything will be alright. I promise. I will always be here for you.”
Daniel just smiled knowing that David is telling the truth and that’s what matters most.
