Chapter 1 - have you seen him?

"Shit, Rae, holy shit you are not going to believe what I heard when I passed the office this morning," my girlfriend - not the dating kind, mind you - Yvainne McConathy squeaked when she bounced over to me one morning, wearing her signature oversized denim jacket and her brown hair braided to the side.

She shook my arm now insistently when I ignored her and continued to converse with my boyfriend via text messages. Daniel and I were arguing about the similarities and differences on Coke and Pepsi, where I argued saying it's different whereas he disagreed with me. I flayed my hands around until she let go, and that should have been a sign enough that I wasn't interested in what she had to say at the moment.

Yvainne was like a gossip queen. If I needed any information about anything, she would be my go to girl; if there was anything worth telling me, she would bug me until I gave in. And seeing her consistency in getting my attention, it was a safe bet that the second scenario was in motion.

Finally, I've had enough and I sighed, turning to her. "What is it now," I groaned. She was used to my disinterest by now, since it was my reaction for almost all the things she tells me. But despite how I am quick to blow her off all the time, we were still the tightest in our friendship group of five.

That did not deter her though, as she kept the sneaky smile on her face. "Don't look so glum, you'd want to know this," she said confidently.

"But that's what you say all the time," I whined, urging her to go on with my hand.

She smirked. "I'm confident this time." Yvainne hooked she arm with mine as we headed to where our lockers are located to grab our books for our first class. "So have you heard about the new transfer student?"

I rolled my eyes and sighed even louder, torn between wanting to bang my head against the locker and running away to lock myself in the washroom to avoid another one of her talks. This wasn't the first time she said I would be interested in a transfer and I'm not going to sugar coat this but it never ever interested me. It was always the same old and sometimes I want to get out of hearing range for it.

Okay, damn. Okay, maybe there was this one guy. He was cute and had the whole good boy gone bad vibe going on, and had those one of a kind hot guy in glasses looks with a head of messy bed hair, and just like that, I was a goner as was the rest of the female population in Edgewood High.

Kyle's hair was leaning towards a darker shade of blond, and a dimpled smile that obviously drive girls wild. Adding the leather jacket that he wore all the time, it's safe to say that many of us lost our wigs and fell for him.

However, I soon got over my obsession as he couldn't for the life of him remember my name. Time after time I tried to converse with him, and time after time I have to introduce myself again. I demonstrated so much patience for him and gave a pretence that I didn't mind but really, I do. I got pissed off eventually and just stopped talking to him. It only fuelled my anger when he never tried to reach out again.

We stopped at our lockers and she stopped talking to concentrate on turning her code while I did mine. Our lockers were conveniently placed beside on another so when I didn't answer her, "I'll take your inability to reply as a 'no'. I saw him, you know, the new guy. Hella hot. Girl, I'm telling you, Nate would not hesitate to turn gay for him."

Nathan Flynn was another one of our friends and is straight as a pole, and I can personally bare witness that he is as long too, but that's a tale for another time. He was the typical jock that has girls flocking him because of his good looks and charisma, but he mostly sticks with us because despite all that, he was an introvert and does not do well in crowds.
