Halloween is almost here. We've finished our second production, My Fair Lady, three days ago, and we decided to do something fun for Halloween, and to celebrate. Yes, on the first night, everyone went out for pizza again. But a couple of us wanted to get together for the holiday as well.
Sharon and I are hosting the party. Sharon's such a big planner when it comes to parties, and I'm not, so I willingly handed her the planning reigns. I found out just how big of a partier she is at her beach-themed birthday party we had a week ago. And now she's up and ready to have another one. Sharon's planned out games, food, pulled out her kareoke machine, and already has a list of people who have RSVP'd.
Now she's set me to work, sending me out to get the ingredients for her elaborate dishes and the decorations.
Coincidently, just before I head out the door, Xander is calling my cell. I pick it up, "Hello?"
"Hey" His voice says hopefully through the receiver. "Are you doing anything?"
"Yeah actually, I'm heading out to get items for the Halloween Bash."
"Oh." He says in a tone full of disappointment. I ask him, "What're you up to?" Xander sighs before responding, "Nothing... unless you count treading in boredom." I smile. "Well. If you're tired of swimming, I could use some company if you want to tag along." Its like he's on an immediate high or something because the change in his voice is immediate. "Really?! Awesome! What're we gonna do?" I laugh, "Go shopping you dimwit!"
"Oh....Right." Xander says with a chuckle. He gives me his address and I hang up with the promise that I'll be over soon.
I grab the keys to Sharon's bright yellow Jeep and head out to the garage. We use each others vehicles so much neither one of us cares when the other uses it. Although, I use the Jeep more than Sharon rides my Harley. She uses it mostly whenever she absolutely has to. I program the car's GPS and head out.
Around an hour later, I pull up to the house. Or should I say mansion. I lean my head out of the jeep, looking the place over from the outside. Whoa.... Okay, I know movie stars have huge houses but this... this is simply gigantic! It looks about three stories high, and is surrounded by trees as well as a tall black fence. I'm guessing the fence is to keep out unwanted guests like the camera-men.
I lean my arm out of the window to try and touch a little black box that is standing in front of the gates. It looks like an intercom. But before I can press one of the little black buttons located by the speakers, the black metal wall before me beeps once. And then it slides open silently, granting access to the short driveway behind it.
I press my foot down on the gas pedal and drive forward, parking in front of the mansion's huge glass double front door. Next to the white marble building are two large pillars which are standing on either side of the doors. These pillars stretch up to the balcony on the second floor. I can just see the flutter of curtains. I slide over the drivers door without opening it, and head up the five front steps. I stretch out my finger and ring the door bell.
I wait for about a minute before the door opens. Xander is the one who has opened it, smiling down at me. He's dressed in jean shorts, black Vans, and a tight fitting shirt with the words Ride Don't Fly written across it. "Hey." He says, grinning widely "Saw you coming." I look at him curiously. "You were watching?" He shrugs nonchalantly. "Maybe." Before I can respond, a big black and brown dog runs down the seemingly never ending hall, the one that stretches out behind Xander. Its heading for us, its long pink tongue flopping as it races our way. The dog halts when Xander puts a large hand on its head, rubbing the ears softly. "Emilee, this is my dog Hattie." I crouch, getting down on her level. "Hey sweetie!" I say as I fondle her floppy ears. "You're gorgeous you know that?" Her big blue eyes look up at me and I melt. She licks my hand before deciding that isn't enough and decides to give my face a shower. I'm laughing as Xander pulls her back by her collar.
