I've been silently following Levi for a couple of days now. I watch him do paperwork, train cadets and even drink tea. He seems to really like the black tea the most.
Currently Levi is training the newest cadets. I have to admit, cleaning duty is a pretty weird kind of training. But it does teach them to listen to every command.
"Oi, brat!" Levi shouts across the hallway for me and I immediately walk up to him.
"Tea, sir?" I ask, already aware of his schedule. Levi looks pretty surprised that I actually know what he wants, so he only nods. I salute and silently answer again. "Already ready and waiting, sir."
"Good." I can catch a glimpse of satisfaction in his eyes.
We head to his personal office. When we enter, I go near a window and look out, watching other cadets resting on the grass exhausted from the cleaning duty.
"(Y/n)." I look back over the shoulder. Levi is facing the table and signing some document, his back turned to me. "You've been pretty obedient these days, you actually surprised me, brat."
"I said that I'd follow you, sir." I look back. "Did I do something wrong?"
"No." Levi takes his cup of tea and sips it, later placing it back on the table. "I just had a thought if you still feel as a slave."
I stay silent. Does he even know what it is to be a slave?
"With all due respect, sir, this is not even close to being a slave." I turn around, now facing the window with my back. "Days are much darker then."
"I know." His answer leaves me interested. "I used to live in the Underground."
I listen and watch as he turns around in his chair so that he's now facing towards me.
"Oh." I don't really know what to say at this point so I lean back to the window and cross my arms.
I flick my cat ears, listening to people outside talk. I look at the ground.
"Hey, have you seen that cat girl always walking with captain?"
"Yeah, man, weird as hell."
"I heard she was used to live Underground. That moron thinks she can enter survey corps so easily."
I look up to meet raven eyes staring at me. "Something's wrong?"
"No, sir." I shake my head and hide my hands behind my back. I wonder if that's what everyone thinks. That I'm actually trying to fit in with Levi just to get in the survey corps.
"I have paperwork to do. You can go explore if you want." Levi turns to his table ant takes out documents. He starts filling them in and I salute.
"I'll be back, sir." I nod and head out to the hallway. I start walking forward, not sure where I'm going. I take a second to appreciate the beautiful architecture of the building.
I stop right in front of the exit. "Don't think I'm allowed to go outside." I murmur to myself.
Steps are heard from the other side of the door so I step away, letting the people in. I immediately recognise their voices. They're the same two that were talking about me under captain's windows.
I meet one of the guy's dark brown eyes. They're filled with surprise but it suddenly changes into a cold stare. "Well look who's here."
I don't answer and stare back. Two males close the door. They're wearing survey corps uniforms with a green cloak covering half of their bodies. The taller, more talkative guy with bright blonde hair steps closer to me, leaving shorter one with bright blue eyes and dark hair behind.
"Isn't it the moron girl?" His eyes trail down bruises on my face. I feel a cold hand touch my cheek as he leans closer to me. "Nice look you got there."
My body stiffens as I look back at him, ready to attack at any second. I feel nails on my hands get sharper, more cat-like. I stop myself waiting for him to attack first.
"Would be a waste not to add one." His other hand clenches into a fist. I growl, showing my fangs, warning him.
A punch is getting closer to my face. Animal instincts leave my mindless and I attack. I dive under his fist and run across, leaving a deep scratch on his torso. I land on all four hissing, blood splattered across his and my clothing.
A loud scream is heard across the hallway, that immediately attracts other cadets attention. I stay still, glaring at the injured guy and the incoming people. I see Hanji run out first, shouting commands to take the guy to the infirmary.
Finally she walks up to me, but I hiss, crouching on the floor and ready to attack again. I can't understand what they're saying. My heart is beating as if I'm close to death. My tail is nervously swinging from side to side.
I can't control myself. I hear voices, but I don't know what they're saying. I see harmless people, but I want to attack.
Finally a voice I actually know shuts everyone up. In a blurry crowd I see a silhouette slowly walking in front of me. I recognise the dark hairstyle and light grey eyes immediately.
"What the hell are you doing, brat?"
I breathe heavily, feeling my nails come back to normal size. I don't answer. Words just don't come out.
"Stand up."
I look around guard up but do as told and slowly stand up on two legs. The guy I injured was already taken to the infirmary, only blood trace left to be seen.
My eyes, once again, meet Levi's. I look at him, waiting for commands. Everyone's staring at me and blood stains on my clothing.
"Don't move." His voice sounds colder than usual. I catch a glimpse of Hanji, who's shouting at everyone to go to their rooms. When the hallway is finally clear, Levi steps closer, Hanji standing behind him, obviously with her guard up. "What did you do, brat?"
"I'm sorry, sir." I calmly salute. "The guy with blonde hair attacked me. I only defended myself."
"He attacked you?" Hanji furrowed her eyebrows and crossed her arms.
"Yes, ma'am." I say, looking over to her.
"Why?" Levi glared at me. I looked at him, not sure how to answer.
"I heard him talk how I was a moron and was trying to get a free place to survey corps by being with you." I said with a dull expression. "I must have irritated him by being on the campus."
Hanji seems to look surprised, but Levi looks away thinking. His eyebrows furrow. I'm once again waiting for his next command.
"Armin Arlert!" Levi raises his voice and fast enough a short blonde guy runs out of his room. He gets to Levi fast enough and salutes.
"Captain." His voice is childish, unsure.
"Lead (y/n) to her cell." Levi turns around, making an eye contact with me only for a second.
Armin salutes once again and hesitantly walks up to me. "Let's go."
I look over to Hanji, who seems to be lost in thought and start following the blonde guy. We walk down the hallway. I try not to step into the blood puddles on the floor and follow Armin downstairs.
I watch him as he silently locks the door and looks at me with a worried look on his face. I find a spot with a bit of hay on the ground and sit, leaning over to a wall.
I disappointed Levi. I know it.
I can feel it.
And it doesn't feel good.
